Dragon Tale

You play as an alcoholic guard in a realm full of dangers. Slay slimes, scoundrels, crabs, chickens and the occasional titular dragon to save the kingdom, because the other guards are too busy doing... whatever it is that they do. The fate of the world rests upon your shoulders! And remember: a sharp wit will do where a blade will not...

simple little student game, you walk through the village with some markets, then you can fight monster in the forest, you light some torches to open a new area, where you solve a puzzle to get to another new area. It's a nice bit of easy fun and I think the students did a good job. Just don't expect anything too impressive when jumping in 3.8/10

Rather enjoyable little game, simple enough puzzles to figure out and all fairly progressive, graphics are decent as is the music, much in keeping with the game. It's quite nice not having to remember loads of potions and spells and what key does what! What enemies there are are not too taxing though it took me a while to figure out what to do with the dragon. Could do with a save instead of save and exit option, also a respawn option as I have got stuck in the graphics a couple of times. It's not going to blow your socks off but it's not going to get you stressed either. One big bug I just discovered which is really annoying, I accidentally clicked new game, then clicked save and exit to quit, lost all of my progress which is bloody annoying

EDIT - Re-writing entire review. Turns out im just really slow sometimes, and blind when i don't wear my glasses. Once i (finally) figured out what i had to do, i've been making great progress. The bow i'm still getting used to, the graphics are lovely. Combat is simple but feels good!

Graphics are okay-ish for a student project, but optimization is poor. The inventory is bare bones. Quests are boring. There's no map or quest journal. Food doesn't heal. And combat is terrible. You can attack and you can block, and that's it. No dodging, no parrying, no light/heavy attacks, no combos, no magic, nada. Locking on to an enemy doesn't stick when the enemy teleports (like [spoiler]the miniboss behind the vines in the woods[/spoiler]). And having to fight that [spoiler]rapid-fire dragonling with your slow-ass bow[/spoiler] is utter garbage. I'd rather play [i]Two Worlds[/i] than this game. Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Dragon Tale is a charming fantasy RPG that I found enjoyable mainly because of its straightforward adventure structure. I play as a city guard investigating an increase in monster activity around the island, and that quickly turns into a larger journey involving dangerous creatures, hidden treasures and mysterious areas. I liked that the game keeps the story simple while giving me plenty of reasons to explore. The combat is built around third person real time action, with different weapons that I can find and use throughout the adventure. I enjoyed having more than one tool available because it makes encounters feel less repetitive, and some of the environmental challenges also require me to think about how I use what I have. The combat is not extremely complicated, but it fits the accessible RPG design. Exploration is probably my favorite part. The island is handcrafted rather than simply being a collection of generic areas, and I enjoyed looking around for secrets and treasure. There are also puzzles and environmental obstacles mixed into the adventure, which gives me something to think about when I am not fighting. I liked that the world encourages me to pay attention instead …
