I have been playing this game since 1992. Originally bought it on 3.5 floppy, from the discount bin at Wal-mart. I have had a working copy(several at a time, because that was the only way to have multiple saves) since then. until 2 years ago, when my final floppy drive failed, and my last few disks decided to age out. thankfully I found it here, and they have done a decent job recreating the magic. What it lacks in graphics it more than makes up for in story, gameplay, replayablility and heart. From endless grinding to speed running. whatever your play style, you can enjoy this classic RPG. For the future of Dilmun, TO ARMS!!

I came into this game with no expectations at all, purely interested because there was an Amiga version and lately I've been interested on the subject matter. Although the Steam version is the DOS version, I hooked it up to an Amiga emulator and played the Amiga version which is superior to the DOS version. This game is surprisingly very open ended, boasting 6 ways to exit Purgatory (beginning location), and giving you freedom in the way you can approach the main quest line - the order of the way of doing things, how to do things, and multiple ways of resolving quests/areas. Weapon and spell information is a black box - but nothing which cannot be solved through the use of some online material. Paragraph referencing can also be quickly looked up online. I like how the game rewards exploration - that's the way you get good loot and upgrading to new weapons and armour makes a big difference. Inventory management is a minor nuisance overall, once you get going with the keyboard shortcuts it's not really cumbersome (small inventory was a bit of a pain at the end though). Classic game, requires a brain!

This is essentially an unofficial Bard's Tale IV, as it was made by some of the designers of those games. While it's a neat Wizardry-like CRPG, it feels dated even for 1990. It's not bad, it is kind of enjoyable, but it pales in comparison to similarly styled games of the era - the Bard's Tale trilogy and the grandaddy of them all, the Wizardry series. And ultimately, while this is a recommend, there are far better games like this that one should explore first. I'd say that this is more of a recommend for those familiar with the game style but definitely not a game in that style that should be experienced first.
