About DROD RPG: Tendry's Tale
DROD RPG: Tendry's Tale is a 2D puzzle dungeon crawl with RPG, move optimization and resource management elements.
DROD RPG combines DROD's puzzle elements, strategy, world and story backdrop with player stats, weapons and armor, one-on-one monster duels, items, custom power-ups and treasure. It was inspired by the classic Tower of the Sorcerer and is similar in flavor to Desktop Dungeons.
As a puzzle/logic game, level layouts, items, enemy encounters, and treasures are all hand-crafted to bring you a series of engaging, well thought-out puzzles that are a joy to solve. Navigate through series of interlocking rooms, looking for the exit on each level. Spend hit points and resources wisely to power up and advance. Decide which pre-placed monsters to fight along the way. Battles resolve deterministically according to a clear set of rules. Get rewards from defeating enemies now or come back later when you're more powerful and can take less damage (hint: this is typically the better option).
Combining DROD's straight-forward interface and flexible puzzle widgets with the staples of dungeon crawling and resource management makes for a unique, genre-busting gaming experience. Play this game to relax and contemplate, or take advantage of its huge depth and optional elements of challenge and replayability to optimize your score against other Steam players. Along with a powerful level editor, modding capabilities and an enthusiastic player community producing novel puzzle content, this is a game you can enjoy for years.
The story
Help Tendry, a member of the scattered Stalwart Army, escape from entrapment far beneath the surface. He might not be the ideal warrior, but he's got a lot of panache to make up for his lack in prowess. Or at least he's always good for a laugh. Keep him from killing himself in battle long enough to save his homeland of Tueno from the menacing Underground Empire.

Deluxe edition

DROD RPG is a really fun and unique optimization game. It's a concept that seems like it would be tough to make work - essentially a single puzzle that spans many hours and hundreds of rooms. However, the game is very well designed to generally keep things challenging without forcing you to go back and repeat a ton of content - at most you'll need to go back a few rooms, maybe to the start of your current floor. Generally, even if you scrape through a boss with only a little bit of health left and most of your keys gone, you'll be able to beat the next floor still with careful decision making.1 found this helpful
Fun combat puzzle / resource management game, plenty of secrets and clever mechanisms to explore.
It's a good RPG and a great side story to DROD that shows how things are on the side of one of Beethro's enemies. I love Tendry's Tale for that, and I hope that they can maybe give something else like this in the future
10/10 roaches
It's not like the puzzle DRODs at all. There is satisfaction getting to the end of a stage, but it took me multiple replays of each stage working out what was to come and then playing through the level. There are really no clues to help navigate your way through a level. I'm still not sure I used the portable orb in the right place!
Good game. It's kinda long-term planning/puzzle-y for a RPG, as you don't regenerate health out of combat for example. So decisions in earlier levels can really affect outcome in later ones, including not being able to finish.
