Dystoria brings an engaging experience to the table. While it's formula is hardly comparable to a true 6 degree of freedom game, it's limitations help flesh out its identity in gameplay. The graphics are decent with its choice of shaders adding depth to the simplicity. I have yet to finish the game as of posting this review, but for the most part my experience with it is fun so far. To nit pick at some design choices, I would certainly appreciate it if the game had the ability to pitch the ship yaw a bit. The later levels love to throw flying enemies that you can't quite hit otherwise without luring them down, which inherits risk of being zapped (One could use homing missiles, bombs, or a blast ability, but they are limited in range and supply and warrant the same risks, leading to some slog luring every little nat drone down to destroy.) The menu navigation is a bit clunky for controllers being designed mainly for mouse navigation. The game features two currencies to unlock weapons and ships respectively. I find the balance a bit off as I unlocked ships much faster than I could weapons. Needless to say, the speed boost powerup has potential to break level navigation as you can for…

DYSTORIA is a visually engaging game containing bright, neon, cubic landscapes with enemies and aesthetics that wouldn't be out of place in TRON. You get to pilot a ship around each level collecting orbs or destroying all enemies to progress to the next stage. The neat twist is that you are bound to the surface of every level, but there is no gravity! Speed towards a wall and you will soon be traversing along the surface of said wall. CAn be slightly disorienting at times, but the game is fun! I think there is a ton of potential with the game mechanics, and would love to see a sequel that adds features and also refines existing ones. cool game.

Great game that brings back the feel of many old school games from the 80's. This is a great casual play game that has a nostalgic 80's feel that's fun to play. IMHO, this game has a lot of positives but only one real negative. You can't look up while controlling your ship. A simple work around is to hit X to go into map mode to look around.

Eh.. The music is great if you're a synthwave fan. Outside of that it is very much more of a puzzle game, which... Doesn't sound accurate, but it kind of is. You've got a ship and you travel over platforms, 360 degrees of them, in search of orbs to unlock a portal. You'll blow up enemies to collect scrap, and neurons too. These lead to unlocking ships and weapons. Combat is fine, nothing fancy. You shoot things and they blow up. The level design is like finding yourself in some kind of Escher drawing put into 3D form. Some levels are nicely designed, and other times it feels like you're in some mangled mess of platforms. It's not really my jam, but I'd be hard pressed to suggest it isn't a well made game.

Wow, a Much cooler game than I thought it would be, what an Amazing way to throw a lil' Story into an Arcade Style game and the Music goes great with it! I got this at discount, but this is one of the few games I think are actually worth full price.
