✦ AI summary

Earth Marines is a straightforward top-down arcade shooter with a simple, enjoyable premise and decent graphics, but suffers from mediocre shooting mechanics, repetitive objectives, and technical issues including a broken final stage and achievement problems. Players appreciate the accessible gameplay and low price point, though some feel the game lacks depth and would recommend similar alternatives in the genre instead.

My Experience It looks like Earth Marines is developer HugePixel's first foray into top-down shooters, and unfortunately, it shows. Although I liked the graphical style of the game, the shooting didn't feel particularly good, and the objectives are kind of pitiful. Destroy the barrels? Kill all the zombies? Destroy all the little green slimes? In some ways, the game feels more like an arena shooter. Close to this price point, I might recommend Red Hot Vengeance, Redie, Operation Thunder, or Superstatic.

Simple shooter you can finish in less than two hours, sadly the final stage is broken. The story is not particularly important. Essentially, a portion of mankind returns to Earth after fleeing it years ago. During that time, the humans who remained behind evolved into zombies. Now it is up to four specialists to save the earth. Aside from slight differences in speed and health, all characters play the same. The gameplay is simple to learn because all you have to do is run around the map and shoot enemies or things. That’s why controls are not complicated. Besides movement and shooting, you can also pick up items or drop a weapon. The catch is that you can only have one weapon. However, this is never an issue because there are pistols, shotguns, and other weapons scattered across the map. You can even get it from hostile humans, as zombies are not your only enemy. Once you have a good weapon, like a machine gun, you can easily beat a stage without picking up another weapon. Although weapons have limited ammo, you can easily obtain ammo packs by smashing boxes. They are everywhere and can also contain health. The exciting thing is that you drop into a stage at random, so you c…

Earth Marines, developed by HugePixel in collaboration with Diedemor Studio and published by HugePixel, is a top-down arcade shooter that places players in the middle of a chaotic fight for humanity’s survival. Designed around straightforward action mechanics and constant enemy pressure, the game delivers a fast-paced experience that emphasizes movement, aiming accuracy, and situational awareness. Rather than focusing on complex storytelling or elaborate progression systems, the title aims to recreate the feeling of classic arcade shooters where survival depends entirely on player skill and quick reactions. The premise unfolds in a future where Earth has been devastated by a catastrophic zombie outbreak. A mysterious infection spread rapidly across the planet, transforming most of the human population into violent creatures driven by an uncontrollable hunger for human flesh. Humanity’s remaining survivors were forced to abandon the planet and retreat into space, waiting for the day they could attempt to reclaim their home world. Earth Marines begins when a specialized military unit is sent back to the surface as part of a desperate mission to begin retaking the planet from the inf…
