About Empires of the Void II
Conquer the galaxy - or befriend it! Empires of the Void II is a beloved board game with deep strategy and a compelling story that you write yourself. This is a digital recreation of that board game, allowing you to play with friends (or strangers) in the same room, or across the world. Choose a race and befriend the native species, or crush them under your merciless heel. The power card deck contains dozens of missions that connect to the deep story underpinning the galactic fringe. Save innocent lives from a gigantic rampaging beast, kidnap the leader of your enemies, or gamble with space pirates. Every playthrough feels unique and interesting. Minimalistic graphics and atmospheric music set the tone without getting in the way. Create your own adventure at the fringe of the galaxy!

The board game is good enough, but...
... this video game adaptation is really bad.
Apart from the annoying sound effects (that can be turned off, but the complete silence is even worse) it's the UI that is its biggest flaw:

It's structured unclearly.
It's clunky, cumbersome, and requires several unnecessary clicks just to display vital information instead of using hover tool tips or something like that.
I found no way of peeking behind or leaving a window that asked me for a decision to double-check information important to said decision, without first making the decision or undoing the whole action... then check the info and then do the action all over again. It's absolutely braindead and dilettantish design!...
In my first (and only) match the graphics bugged out and displayed a bunch of resource cards right in the middle of the screen covering up most of that planet in the center, but those cards couldn't be interacted with. They were just there.
It's sad, because the game itself and the graphics are mostly fine... but the controls and the UI are the result of what happens when rubbish and bullshit get totally dru…1 found this helpful
OK so Empires of the void 2 is a great great game. this digital version is not without its issues. Basically try not to use the undo. anytime I hit a bug was after hitting undo. specifically if the game ever gave you resources from an event/card. don't undo that. simple things like move select and nothing happened can be undone fine. That aside this was such a fun game. I just played digital, not any online matches. ran really well on everything I ran even the steam deck (though the 800p screen made some text hard to read, but it ran well. after getting 10 games in on this, I went out and bought the physical game. Way fun game with a good (but buggy) implementation1 found this helpful
Hope that dev will fix connecting issue, I assume from the multiplayer support out... please please fix the bugs, it get's stuck in the learnig module; it is such a great adaptation from the board game!!
Board game is good, lame that they sold it and never finished the online version...
Not really, no
Well I kinda liked it. It's not worth the asking price, not in its current state, but it does reproduce the game's vibe quite well. It's all over a bit too quickly, and weirdly, it doesn't have the optional modes that are in the physical game. With just a bit more budget, and a slightly bigger dev team, this could be great fun. I absolutely LOVE the board game incidentally!
