(Edit: Changing to positive because the game doesn't deserve a negative review, I just wish the tests were data oriented, passing input buffers and just comparing the output buffer to an expected result, and making the interconnects of the hardware less opaque, e.g., not the random object+method calling) Really cool concepts, the assembly was fun, the javascript part sucks, being shoehorned into this awful objected oriented paradigm and forced to write really crappy code (or else you don't pass tests) really detracts from how cool the game could be.

This is one of the best (if not the best) programming game experiences on Steam. It's not a "puzzle" or "code golf" or "play around with this pet language with arbitrary frustrating restrictions", but instead a gamified walkthrough of building a real, working NES emulator in Javascript, every part of it. It's really, really well-done, with a little IDE and test driven milestones directly in the application. Any aspiring programmer or NES aficionado should absolutely check this out.

this game is so awesome! Became my evening hobby. When I finish it, I'd be down to purchase supporter pack and looking forward for upcoming platforms to emulate. Highly recommend!

Only just started and not quite finished the Assembly section, but I can already tell this game is going to be like Turing Complete and be an incredibly interesting and fun experience.

It's literally building the emulator by code (with javascript) and it's completely free. And here we get to learn 6502 Assembly too.
