Mnemonimov

To me, Mnemonimov is a sandbox in its truest form. Sometimes you build a pretty simplistic castle with simple architecture and a monochrome color palette; other times you eat sand because your skills are about as good as a four-year-old's. There are no tutorials other than a pretty technical manual that assumes you know most of what there is to know. I unfortunately last coded sometime in middle school, if we don't count the Excel formulas at work. It felt like coming to the sandbox without any tools while other kids had a set of specialised shovels and years of national-level sandcastle-building competition. So I started by reading the manual for several days and joining the Discord server to check out which early alpha version of Mnemonimov had Doom programmed in it. The results didn't disappoint. After several weeks I could write simple loops, and work out embed, draw, and some other functions. I came to the calm realisation that I'm not smart enough for advanced ray tracing or specialised maths. But my 60 hours were enough to build a small game with handmade pixel art and basic mechanics. A great way to practice assembly concepts. My only complaint would be that the documentation is lacking in some areas.

Made a C compiler for this game, super fun to make minigames and libraries and small projects using the compiler and then watching them come to life in game

Great software for assembly development, though I only have one simple complaint, though a good one: Crashes while scrolling a lot. Commonly freezes.

Mnemonimov is ok but if you're going to build your product around the concept of learning and using an assembler and debugger, provide at least the common functions of a window giving the user a view of registers as well as a way to browse memory. There's no good way to see what's going on in memory and it would be immensely helpful to new assembly programmers to be able to watch the registers as their program runs. Mousing over register names in the code to see their value isn't really good enough. Also, the documentation is only provided through an in-game help facility. Docs provided in the form of a pdf file would be awesome. All this said, I'll tip the scales in favor of a thumbs up because the tool does technically work. It is however missing some basic functionality. That said, it can be fun if you're the type of person who enjoys programming.

Assembly is fun! Made a "divmod" function. Will eventually implement a "printf" function. Yes, I know what I'm getting into.
