This game is a fun top down tactical game (a la X-Com) and was challenging after the tutorial. The General is super useful with his Inspire ability, but make sure you keep him safe, unlike I did... Some gameplay can be viewed on my Free2Play Weekly episode at https://youtu.be/HC5bHOmEFsQ?t=427.
Warning: Asset Flip! "ETO" is one of literally thousands of creatively bankrupt asset flips infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.
This is a very barebones Unity asset flip, the developer ripped off the Toon Soldiers WW2 Edition asset pack created by real developer, Polygon Blacksmith, slapped his own name on it, and combined it with a basic turn based tactical strategy game blueprint. Yawn. It was a dismal failure, of course, gamers on Steam can smell an asset flip from a mile away. So, "ETO" is partially or completely made up of stock assets, "borrowed" from asset stores and free asset websites. Little, if anything in this game is the creation of the "developer". While there's no up front price for this asset flip, the other problem with asset flips is that when developers aren't capable of doing their job and creating high quality assets, it's also true they can't do any of the rest of the job of a game developer either. That's definitely true for "ETO", and this k…

5.5/10 Simplified XCom in WW2 setting TLDR: the combat system will remind XCom initially. However, it ends up a boring positional grind where you're just waiting for high rolls of the die... Neutral vote Good: + free + the core idea of a simplified XCom/Jagged Alliance-like game is interesting. Instead of HP, it uses 2 intermediate soldier states between "okay" and "dead": yellow ("pinned") in which the soldier can't move and red ("suppressed") in which can only throw a grenade. Hitting shots push the soldier down this hierarchy of states by 1, 2, or 3 pegs depending on a die roll So-so: +/- sitting behind sandbags is overpowered. Also, sandbags seem to provide a boost to defense regardless of the attacker's position. So, flanking or even coming from behind to a guy near a sandbag is pointless. Maybe it's a bug... +/- 3D models and the environment are low-poly and seem to be made for mobile? In fact, I'm not even sure such a simple TBS should have been 3D. The trees hide the solders. You can't rotate camera +/- camera only centers on enemies when a solder starts his turn. He can easily move outside the camera's view. And the target of his shots are not shown at all. So you have …

this game is surprisingly good except how you can choose any level i wish their was some kind of campaign for it which would be really cool i also love the fact that you can rally and grenade other enemies which i find very helpful when theirs only 3 against 6 and their all close range and together, please add a campaign !

It's always difficult to rate a game badly when you can play it for free. But sorry, I just didn't enjoy it. It lacks depth in particular.
