✦ AI summary

Players consistently report significant technical issues including fatal errors, crashes, and clipping bugs that severely impact playability, with particular frustration around the forest level and lack of basic customization options like control rebinding or graphics settings. While some acknowledge the game has interesting core ideas and note the developer is responsive to feedback, most feel the game is too buggy and unfinished in its current state, with the short playtime and clunky design making it hard to recommend until major fixes are implemented.

Game is still currently being updated... but aside from a bit of jank it has the atmosphere dialed, a good spread of environments, and a range of mechanics for the different areas that a lot of Backrooms games don't have. Definitely worth the rough edges for an experience that is a sort of hybrid between the atmospheric walking sims and the slam-bang popular co-op titles.

EXPEDITION TO THE BACKROOMS is a first-person horror adventure developed and published by 1_Cutter_1 that embraces the unsettling mystery of the Backrooms while attempting to carve out its own identity. Instead of emphasizing nonstop scares, the game leans into suspense, exploration, and the feeling of venturing into an impossible world where reality no longer follows familiar rules. Players take on the role of an expedition member working for the PhaseSync organization, entering strange dimensions to uncover secrets, document anomalies, and survive encounters with unknown entities. The narrative premise provides enough context to justify the journey while allowing environmental storytelling to remain the primary method of revealing the world's mysteries. The game's strongest feature is its commitment to atmosphere. Every environment is crafted to evoke loneliness and uncertainty, from endless office corridors to abandoned facilities and surreal locations that seem disconnected from the normal world. Rather than relying on a single visual theme, the adventure introduces multiple areas with distinct appearances and moods, preventing exploration from becoming repetitive. The oversiz…

this game is verry buggy and has a LOT of problems!, however this is probably the coolest backrooms game ive ever played the concepts levels and even the endings are phenomenal, it doesnt cost a huge amount and i think even though it has bugs and issues, you should buy it anyways and support the creator and their Vision.

Im a HUGE backrooms fan, and have played many backrooms games. This one has potential to be as good as escape the backrooms which is saying a lot. I will say that the stamina meter makes this game very slow paced. I think maybe having stamina recharge quicker or run out slower would make for a more enjoyable experience. You have infinite stamina when getting chased anyway. Other than that, the game looks and feels good.

This game has some cool ideas when it works, bought it because I enjoy these games. My experience has been very frustrating. There are no ways to rebind controls, no brightness/gamma settings, you can clip through parts of the forest fences and can't get out. (Edit: As my understanding of the forest level has changed, I will be leaving up this part of the review as it is still an issue to me and once it gets fixed and implemented, my opinion may change.) I really want to like this game, but right now I would say wait until the game is fully set because you may have a frustrating time and it will ruin the game for you. I hope that this game grows into something great because you can see the potential in the game. Edit: After the dev explained the forest area and how I misunderstood the mechanic, I will be removing that part of the review as it was a fundamental misunderstanding on my part.
