Hostile alien forces have set their sights on Earth and will stop at nothing to wipe our civilization from existence. The invaders seek to use their advanced technology to annihilate humanity, but they weren’t expecting the people of Earth to counter with sophisticated technology of our own. Enter Project ExZeus, humanity’s last and best defense to repel the otherworldly menace and restore peace to our little blue planet using ultra high-tech fighting robots! In the year 2102 C.E. a massive, previously unknown asteroid entered Earth’s orbit and began unleashing waves of attacks on the planet, killing thousands of people every day and devastating human civilization. The lucky few who survived the initial onslaught managed to escape deep underground, narrowly preventing humanity’s extinction. The Governing Council ordered an immediate counter-attack using three experimental robots: Calista, Sophia, and Dynamis. With that, Operation ExZeus was born. Now, you must choose one of the three giant flying robots to take into battle against the invading forces of Diadora. Soar through the skies, blast away enemies, and reclaim Earth for its people!

After a century of peace, Operation ExZeus and the defeat of Diadora are but a distant memory for the people of Earth. However, the peace was not to last. A new menace has emerged from deep space in the form of five mysterious pods, each one a weapon of mass destruction, which have landed in densely populated areas around the globe. To combat these new threats, Operation ExZeus has been reopened with the legendary robots Calista, Sophia, and Dynamis being fused together to create the ultimate fighting robot, Minos. Dominate the land and skies as you take control of Minos to repel the alien threat, destroy the five pods, and defeat the invaders once and for all!

I'll be honest, I didn't know that it was possible to make a rail shooter that feels bad to play. I'd read the reviews so I'm not disappointed with the purchase but even for fellow "7/10 fans" this just isn't particularly worth playing. (Based on completing ExZeus 1 and most of ExZues 2 legacy for about 2 hours total time) For ExZues 1... The biggest problem for me is the controls, not the mapping or responsiveness but the core design decisions behind movement. Traditionally, rail shooters like Star Fox have you control the crosshair first, and your ship will follow. Here, the control stick moves your mech directly and the crosshair stays locked in the center of the screen meaning. that.. you literally can't aim your shots. Instead, you get a "Lock On" meter that can fire missiles at all enemies on the screen. But this means you spend all your time mashing A and B nonstop and its just painful for my old man hands. Finally, you have a Star Fox style dodge roll but it doesn't give I-Frames only a speed boost to dodge. But your playable mech takes up massive real estate on the screen and its hard to see anything coming with the speed the game moves. You'll tank hits not skillf…3 found this helpful

The ExZeus games are arcade style rail shooters that rock an early nineties arcade-core visual style, and I find the colorful, chunky models to be appealing. The first game is relatively tighter but can feel overly brief, and the second game adds longer levels which frequently flip between alternate game modes (unfortunately, all of these non rail shooter sections are bad). Regardless of the game, it feels like there is little opportunity for finesse. These ExZeus games are clunky garbage, but they made me happy.2 found this helpful
Incredibly underrated and charming arcade remaster of two games, entertaining visuals and peak boss fights, ExZeus 2 is definitely the better of the two being an improvement of the original (albeit missing the choice between playable characters and some of the more dynamic boss fights)1 found this helpful
This review is a 50/50 ExZeus 1 is an excelent . ExZeus 2 sadly is the cashgrab slightly edgy sequel from the early 2000s.
