✦ AI summary
Play as stylish martial artists and fantasy fighters in this streamlined fighting game where every move is one button and matches start in seconds. Built by a Street Fighter veteran with tournament-grade depth and cross-platform netcode, it's designed so newcomers grasp the basics instantly while competitive players find the mind games and strategy that make fighting games legendary.
Free-to-play, the good kind like DOTA2: Play all our characters online for free without any grinding or unlocks!
Free Modes: Online Casual Play, Online Ranked Play, Online Friend Match, Practice Mode, Single Match vs. AI
Be an archer with fiery arrows, a colorful painter, a martial arts master who can transform into a dragon, and more! Fantasy meets martial arts in this vibrant world.
• Excellent online play + cross-platform play. We are not aware of better networking tech in any other fighting game, and we're sorry about how that sounds. Custom implementation of GGPO networking technology. Cross-platform with both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 version.
• Online quick match. Just pick a character, click ready, and you're playing online.
• Online ranked play. Pick a team of 3 characters in this team battle mode. You'll play a series best 3 out of 5 games where you get to play each of your characters in separate games, for maximum variety. This mode uses built-on-the-fly tournaments.
• Friend Challenge. Directly challenge friends online to either standard 1v1 or 3v3 team battles. To play a friend, go to your in-game friends list and click on the crossed swords by any name to challenge them. (Or click on the eyeball to watch them play.) That’s it!
• One-click spectating. Click on any friend in your in-game friends list to watch them play and automatically follow them as they play more online games. That’s it!
• Daily Challenge. An endless survival mode that you can only play ONCE per day. See how you do compared everyone else that day.
• Practice mode. Includes dynamic frame data and frame-step features.
• Tutorial. A quick, 5-minute tutorial teaches you the basics of how the game works.
• Single Match vs AI. Pick your character and the AI's, then play a game. As much as you want!
• Spotlight Videos. Every character has their own spotlight video, a narrated tour by game director David Sirlin. Each video goes though that character's moves and what their general gameplan and strategy is about.
• Unique throw escape. To escape (normal) throws, simply let go of all your controls! You'll automatically "yomi" counter any throw attempt.
• Simple controls. All moves are done with a single button press so you can play with any controller.
• Boss Rush mode. Build a deck of powerups in this very crazy roguelike mode. Can you defeat all 8 of the increasingly powerful bosses?
• Arcade mode. With illustrated, voiced story intros and endings.
• Survival modes. How long can you last in these four sub-modes? Each is a rapid-fire series of opponents with no loading times between them. Opponents get stronger as you go and include Shadow Bosses.
• Local versus. Play standard 1v1 and also 3v3 team battle (each player picks 3 characters and plays a special best 3 out of 5 series).

If You’re New To Fighting Games
Designed to work great on keyboard, no need for a special controller. We’ve streamlined the genre to get you to the fun decision-making part as soon as possible. All moves are just a single button press, combos are easy, move lists are concise. We’ve cut the chaff to focus on the heart of the genre so we can show you why fighting games are awesome. If You’re a Veteran
This game is designed by an ex-Street Fighter dev and hardcore player for play in tournaments. Mixups, rushdown, zoning, and the grapplers seeming too powerful on day 1. It’s got all that. And you can play it with pretty much anyone in the fighting game community, no matter what other fighting game they play, because you can all reach basic competency in Fantasy Strike in minutes and start playing for real. Plus you can play with a joystick, gamepad, Guitar Hero controller, or whatever else you want.Stuff You Get For Free

This is easily one of the worst fighting games I've played. The combat feels extremely limited, there's no crouching, matches are over in about a minute, and the damage system is poorly designed. Character balance is all over the place, with only a few fighters having real combo potential. The player base is tiny, mostly consisting of complete beginners or veterans who dominate every match. Save yourself the frustration and play literally any other fighting game instead.2 found this helpful
Fantasy Strike is a fighting game developed and published by Sirlin Games that challenges many of the conventions that have defined the genre for decades. While most competitive fighters expect players to memorize lengthy command inputs, practice difficult combos, and spend countless hours mastering execution, Fantasy Strike approaches the genre from a completely different angle. Its design philosophy revolves around making fighting games easier to learn without removing the strategic depth that makes them compelling. The result is a title that feels refreshingly approachable while still offering enough complexity to satisfy serious competitors. From the moment players enter their first match, it becomes clear that accessibility is the game's primary goal. Special attacks are executed with simple button presses rather than complicated directional motions, and each character possesses a streamlined set of moves that can be understood quickly. This dramatically reduces the learning curve that often discourages newcomers from trying traditional fighting games. Instead of spending hours practicing inputs, players can immediately focus on understanding spacing, timing, prediction, and …2 found this helpful
Fantasy Strike is one of those fighting games that people saw, it gave them hope that more fighting games will adopt the free to play stlyle, and then completely fumbled. This game came out in 2019, and only in 2025 did they think "hey maybe, we shouldn't restrict friends from playing". I'm not even making this up btw, this is literally the third paragraph of their last update in 2025: "Starting today, we’re lifting this restriction; the free-to-play version of Fantasy Strike will allow you to play not just online as part of the casual and ranked queues, but in Direct Challenges (Friend Matches), as well." I think this title could've genuinely shaken things up for fighting games if they just made a regular fighting game and found better ways to monetize it. They could've added a pass, and start working on new characters, making characters purchasable through said pass, and so on. The exact same strategy other fighting games use, but it would be even better for this game because it costs nothing. In most other fighting games I hate that you have to pay for chars, there's no way to unlock them, and usually if you don't pay for the char, you can't practice against it yourself. nice shish
It was a nice game...
I have never played a fighting game that is so legitimately bad. The number of moves you can do are severely limited and you can't crouch. There's no health bar. You have a bar with 6 units that go with every hit you take. Every attack deals 1 unit, regardless of how heavy/strong the attack looks or feels, but other characters can just deal 2 units of damage with using your super move. The balancing of characters feels pretty bad with only certain characters feel like they have any real combos and matches are over in 60 seconds. Player base feels like 20 people and the ones left are either newbies just trying the game or veterans who won't let you play the game. If you value your sanity and time, just... don't. Play literally ANY other game.
