Field Hospital: Dr. Taylor's Story

Despite the short length of this game, I was really charmed by it. A doctor who has only two or three beds available has five or six patients waiting who are suffering from ailments varying in severity and must decide who to accept and who to refuse. A similar premise to Death and Taxes which I also really loved. Each player will have their own criteria to help them choose. My initial playthrough consisted of choosing people who had children at home, people who had served the longest in the army etc but I tried a few different runs in order to see what happened if I treated the people I sent packing in previous runs. The game puts the player on the spot at times as in the case of a young man who really is not injured badly but it's "Suggested " that you choose him because of his family connections. Choosing him grants you an extra bed for future patients but at the cost of sending away someone who was much more deserving of medical treatment. The fates of the patients are revealed afterwards and the player can find out how life has turned out for them which was a great little touch. Interesting and fun with for just a few pounds.

A short game, but one I have enjoyed. It was interesting seeing how your decisions impacted people's fates. I like that it's available on Mac, the sound design is satisfying, and the art style seems nice. My only real complaint is there's lots of typos, like Trombosis instead of Thrombosis, "and" instead if "an engineer" and some others.

It's really chill I guess. There's a LOT of reading. Gameplay is really fast though. You can beat the whole game in just 1 hour.

It's an interesting premise but I couldn't get into it due to design flaws. More than half my tiny playtime is trying to swtich the language to English after it launched in a different language and the menu was not intuitive. The main game GUI is awkward too. Clicking through (small, low contrast, cursive font with bad readability) has a "next" button at the bottom of the window but then a "close" button at the top of the window. Signing and stamping documents doesn't have any satisfying sound effects. There's none of the polish that you see in Papers, Please. The stories could be interesting... if I got to see all of them! It made me play two days before I got my report and then it only showed me 3 of the 4 people I chose to treat? I wanted to find out what happened to the veteran. I'm forgetting this game.
