Even at full price this is by far the cheapest way (besides the library) to experience this trilogy of gamebooks (assuming they are relatively faithful adaptations). When on sale it is highway robbery (roll your luck!). This alone is enough to recommend it, even if you don't care for the new mechanics or art. I think it is all tasteful and doesn't distract too much from the text; the map is a fancier version of what a lot of readers might draw themselves, and the character art reminds me of a muddy imitation of Vicente Segrelles. It's a good compromise between the stark slate of a book and the gaudy overstimulation of an animated 3D environment, which embellishes the reader's imagination without overwhelming it. Personally my memory is much worse interacting with a map than with a book, and trudging about on the map is much slower than a hyperlinked edition of the book. There are many reasons you might prefer the books, but strangely you would have to pay much more for them even in digital editions. Go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There are over 60 books in the original series so I'm happy to approach these in a new format, knowing there are still plenty of classic books I may never get to. …

Fun point and click adventure that reforms the fighting fantasy books into a videogame, with larger world exploration and an easier dice system that rolls for damage instead of rolling for attack strength. Zagor's and Zanbar Bone's deaths are unchanged from the books, but from what i've seen Balthus Dire can no longer be instantly killed by sunlight like he is in the book, which is an improvement. Much of the Citadel of Chaos and the CIty of Thieves remains the same as the books, but the Firetop Mountain has suffered a lot of changes in encounters and locations, which were replaced by random card events, and why is the Minotaur waiting on a 2 beds bedroom? Some background choices are weird like that but the Hydra's room background looks amazing, it really looks like an open battlefield instead of a small room inside a tower, i really enjoyed the depictions of Balthus Dire's and Zanbar Bone's dark towers here, it´s just the firetop mountain that seems like a weak rendition, maybe because the Tin Man games company had already made a tabletop videogame version for it and there might be some sort of conflict of interest. Completing the pokédex is fun too although the fights quickly ge…

https://youtu.be/gLX0nBNHTYc Despite large dice pools the 1 in 6 success chance per die drags out the play as roll after roll is primarily blanks extending all encounter times.

There is not much positive to say about this game. Tries to be a unique TTRPG but is just frustrating and repetitive.
