About Flat Eye

Managing the future of technology with humanity from a gas station

GAMEPLAY

Flat Eye is a perfectly balanced blend of management simulation and narrative-driven gameplay. As the manager of the world’s premier gas and technological hub, it’s your job to keep your station running smoothly, complete daily objectives tasked by the world’s first true AI, and develop new technology to improve (or curse) the future of humanity.

**Flat Eye deals with technology and its impact on our lives. Therefore, it might contain heavy topics not suitable for everyone.**

FEATURES

Explore a vast tech tree to discover and install new modules into your station to entice “Premium Customers”. Each of these characters will bring with them a new and eye-opening narrative for you to interact with and influence.

Example Modules**:
  • Organ vending Machine (Lab-grown, no free-range organs here)
  • Artificial Womb (Please keep your receipt to receive the correct baby)
  • Cloning Booth (Four hands are better than two)
  • Memory modification (Who needs regrets when you can erase them in a snap?)
  • Smart toilets (We’ll let you figure that one out)
  • Teleportation (One-way tickets only)
  • Plus, many more!

Each day you will need to report your store’s earnings and rating to the world’s first AI (and subsequently, the owner of Flat Eye and its parent company). A word of caution - don’t disappoint them.

Warnings have been placed at each store, please read with caution. Flat Eye™ is not liable for unforeseen outcomes from the use of its Cloning Booth, Organ Vending Machine, or Teleportation Module)

STORY

Flat Eye’s narrative centers around the exploration of emergent technologies through the stories of returning customers.

Not everyone that enters your station will be of importance - this is where “Premium Customers” come in. These “premium” characters will only appear once a specific set of modules are available for use in your station. Each of these customers has been profiled by the station’s AI as those who will have an important request that once explored, could have rippling effects on the future of humanity.

As the station’s manager, your job will be to listen to the needs of the “Premium Customers” and make decisions on behalf of humanity. It’s a tough job, but you don’t get paid minimum wage for nothing!

Pushes and pushes and pushes its themes and story by talking directly at you with cutscenes Fun at very first but gameplay loop becomes grindy and unfun quickly

Boring. A game that plays itself off as an automation game but has very little automation. The gameplay consists of a repeating loop: Build stuff, repair that stuff, refill that stuff, talk to annoying "special" customers, move on to the next day. If you manage to "do well" you get stars, and the stars allow you to very slowly unlock new technology so that you can do the repeating loop...more, I guess. I put 3 hours into the game, and I'm done. The characters are annoying, their individual story lines supposedly some kind of wry observation on technology in our lives blah blah blah, but all it really just breaks down to is a series of characters whining about their problems. Supposedly there's something about time travel in there too, but I honestly just don't have the time or patience for this. It's not a *bad* game, per sè, it's just...nothing. At $18.99, I *can't* recommend it. I got it through a Humble Choice bundle, so the actual price I paid was probably only around $1, and...yeah, it's definitely worth that. Otherwise, no. Buy it on a steep sale, if you buy it at all.

Went back to this years after dropping it and realizing why I did in the first place. Narratively interesting but mechanically really really boring.

Cool game, I just wish I could increase the text size so I could read it more comfortably, that is the only draw back I see so far. It's running a convenience store, but with a lot of things to manage that you don't expect.

I really wanna love this game, i do....but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game would have really benefitted from producer oversight and proper q&a, because there are so many design decisions that leave me baffled as to why they had to be implemented in this way. Thus this game slowly becomes not fun as the hours continue, until it just drags on and overstays its welcome by a long while. What i like about the game are the conversations with the customers, the documents, text messages and of course the musing of "Ms. S". Sometimes serious, sometimes whimiscal and funny. It was good food for thought (not always super high-level, but i didnt expect it to and can fill in the blanks myself). What i didnt like about the game was the game itself and how it was designed...especially after the hours mount on (like after hour 4 or 5), sucking out the fun that was to be had. This could have been avoid by making cuts and making the game shorter. Then, if the players wants more storylines or endings, they would replay it. But as is, it so much feels artifically lenghtened, and together with some of the bugs it really feels like a slog. Thus, i really cant recommened it as much as i want to.
