文字獄 (2019)

文字獄 is an old school adventure puzzle game where, instead of typing a text command, you assemble commands using cards representing nouns and verbs. While it does say there's no English support, there is an English translation and it works well enough that the game is playable. This really feels more like a browser/mobile app than a dedicated PC game. The simple drag and drop UI seems to have been designed for mobile phones. There's some clever ideas in the design of the puzzles and the game, but the lacklustre implementation makes it unsatisfying and unrecommendable to gamers. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budg…
