I loved the Gears of War franchise since it was first released in the mid-2000s. I loved the 1st Gears of War game. I have a lot of nostalgia for this game. It's been quite a long time since I played Gears of War 1 on the Xbox 360 so I don't remember how the AI was in the original and I don't remember the feel of the controls in the original (not much anyway). I have never played the Ultimate Edition so I don't know if it was good, mixed or bad. So I'm just going to be comparing the Reloaded version to the og 360 version. I have not played this game via multiplayer nor co-op. I have only played the single player campaign so bear that in mind regarding my thoughts on the game. Ok, I don't love the look of this remaster. It looks too bright and too smooth. I loved the gritty, dark and desolate look of the original way more. I don't like how smooth the characters' faces are. All they literally did was take the Ultimate Edition from 10 years ago and just sharpened it up a little bit. If you prefer the original look like I did (not necessarily the character models but moreso the setting and atmosphere of the original), then you might not like this look. Despite the flaws this is the definitive way to play gears of war 1. I've played every version of gears 1 minus gears 1 2007 pc port
I recommend you play with an Xbox controller because there's a part of the game where controller vibrators are advantageous. Fun game. My first time playing this game, and this remaster is a great way to experience it. Well optimized (perfect 60fps). Took me eight hours to beat mostly on normal difficulty. I turned down to casual for the final boss. Many negative reviews mention a lack of split-screen co-op (coop as many spell it) and that's a respectable criticism, but other reviews criticize the art direction. I never played this game on Xbox 360, but I think the game looks fantastic. If the game had the very exact same style, there'd be less reason for many people to buy it. Even they who say the original is what they want wouldn't want to spend any money for the same art style. Demon's Souls on PS5 got the same attention and I love the PS5 and PS3 games. I'm not entirely against this way of thinking though as I can understand it a little. I saw a bit of Dark Souls Remastered and thought that version was very weird looking. Also, I wonder what people are doing to get bad frame-rates. Honestly I did experience the second to last cutscene being very choppy while I got the game …
