I rate Unreal Gold (with the OldUnreal mod installed) 4.5/5. Overall, this game is truly excellent. Even after all these years, Unreal (with just the OldUnreal mod installed), is still a solidly good game and the fact that it is legally free to download makes it even better. With the OldUnreal mod, there is no real reason for anyone (like Nightdive Studios for example) to bother to remaster Unreal (or its Return to Na Pali expansion) unless they make truly significant modifications which are superior the latest version of the OldUnreal mod. You can legally and freely download Unreal (and the OldUnreal mod and Unreal Tournament 1999 and Unreal Tournament 2004 (and updated versions of all those games) at https://oldunreal.com The website does not require you to input any information, register or sign up for anything in order to acquire copies and updated OldUnreal modded versions of these games. NOTE: (OldUnreal is not a mod but is actually the latest version of Unreal, that version being 227, which is an update over the previous (and final) official version known as 226f. Old Guy here on a nostalgia trip! Unreal was the first game I ever played using a dedicated graphics accelerator (3dfx Voodoo2 with 8Mb of VRAM!) and it was simply mind-blowing. The scale of the environments, the textures, the fast-moving gameplay, the surround sound, the incredible music and the jumpscares put it into another realm entirely from the games I'd been playing up till then on PC. No hand-holding, no narration, no talkative NPCs, just magical environments filled with awful things trying to kill you, and an impressive array of weapons designed to gib them all. The atmosphere still survives intact to this day, dated and polygon-ridden though it may be, but it is still a great story you can enjoy on your own. A classic from one of the best game periods in history, that magical 1998-99 timeframe that gave us Half-Life, Unreal Quake III and System Shock 2.1 found this helpful
Epic Games never fails to bring Epic Shames.
This game is not available anymore, but I can assure that those that were born in the late 80's / beginning of the 90's had a blast with it
