GENIE

A peaceful, poetic walking sim that feels like drifting through a dream. The visuals are gorgeous, the atmosphere is quiet and reflective, it also healed my brainrot, highly recommend :)

This is the third version of Genie I've played. Or am I misremembering the previous game as two separate games? On one hand, the environments are truly stunning, and there's an incredible amount of detail. It's all absolutely gorgeous! The walking pace is much faster than many of his other games, which is great, and the ideas presented in some of the poems are wonderful. On the other hand, having to pause during each section of poetry makes the game lose momentum, though I'm guessing the motive is to ensure players aren't too distracted to appreciate it. The poetry itself has some very awkward word choices and could certainly be improved; however, I don't think the dev is a native English speaker, and it's actually very good for someone speaking it as a second language. Perhaps a native English speaker who's familiar with poetry could proofread future scripts. The voice actor is pretty good, much better than I could do, but at the same time, there's not really genuine emotion in her voice. a calm and dreamlike walking sim with stunning scenery and lovely narration. if you’re in the mood for a slow, relaxing experience that feels like wandering through a moving painting, this is a lovely little escape

I really prefered the previous version so drizzlepath-genie. There the story was a journey, here it seemed more like a slideshow. There you walk a long path here you run in circles on 15 different maps. The poems were OK but they are exactly the same as in the 2016 version. Graphics was OK but not as captivating as the previous one. In other words I am not fun of this one.

After completing Genie, I can say I have played every game Tonguc Bodur has put out. Every. Last One. I'm pretty sure I haven't given a single other one of his games a negative review, but I cannot recommend this one. The music, environments, and voice acting are all great. But the gameplay loop...gets repetitive and uninteresting after a couple of chapters, and there are 15 chapters. The fact that this loop involves looking into a blinding white light, a light that made me physically look away every time, was utterly terrible. I muted the game audio and watched a movie while trying to earn the achievements (I had to stop because somehow one of the chapter's game audio was playing despite the master volume and all other volumes being muted). I might have actually read more of the poems if the pacing was not so slow, and if the whole poem appeared at once like most of Tonguc's games. The story was just not engaging enough to warrant the tediousness and slow pacing. I got this on sale for $0.99 and I still feel like it wasn't worth it. Bought this game as soon as it came out. Hit a snag in chapter 2 that caused me to drop it for a while. Picked it up again the other day, finished all the way until the end. Game was tedious at times and too wordy, but I remembered the excerpts from the classic 'Drizzlepath: Genie'. Was also entranced by some of the visuals this time -- places worth exploring. Wish Chapter 9 was a whole game by itself, a few others. Look forward to other titles by this same author, games do surprise me.
