[h2]I completed the lawn for the achievements years ago, and it was excruciating[/h2] Get Off My Lawn is fun at first, but after a few playthroughs you start questioning why you’re still playing. Oh right, achievement hunting. Something I totally don’t do anymore. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. The game is basically an action tower defense spin on Plants vs. Zombies, except this time it’s an old man defending his lawn from waves of aliens trying to abduct him. The core gameplay revolves around choosing when to shoot, where to focus your attacks, and upgrading your weapons so the aliens never stand a chance. At first the difficulty curve feels decent, then it becomes easy, then hard again, and eventually the repetition starts to wear thin. If you’re a normal human being, there’s a good chance you’ll get bored long before finishing everything the game has to offer. Still, it’s free, and there is some dumb fun to be had for a while. I just wouldn’t strongly recommend grinding it out unless you’re chasing achievements. Get Off My Lawn! is a casual defense game built around the simple idea of protecting my lawn from unwanted visitors. The premise is immediately understandable, and the humorous title gives the game a playful personality. Instead of taking itself too seriously, it focuses on the fun of defending a small piece of territory from increasingly persistent intruders. The biggest strength for me is the simple defensive gameplay. I have to react to enemies approaching my property and make quick decisions about how to deal with them. The straightforward objective makes it easy to start playing, while the increasing number of threats gives the basic idea some extra pressure. The humour also helps the game stand out. Defending a lawn is such an ordinary concept that turning it into a full game creates a deliberately silly situation. I like when a game takes a mundane idea and exaggerates it enough to become entertaining. The controls are easy to understand, which makes the game suitable for short sessions. Fun quirky tower defense with a grumpy old man theme, addictive gameplay loop. Recommended.
