About Golf Club Nostalgia

✦ AI summary

Play golf across a post-apocalyptic Earth filled with environmental storytelling, puzzles, and dark humor about humanity's collapse, while piecing together the full narrative through your golfer's journey, Mars radio broadcasts, and a mysterious spectator's commentary. Choose your experience from relaxing story mode to brutally challenging iron mode, all backed by a handcrafted soundtrack and accompanied by a digital art book and soundtrack.

The rich fled to Mars but venture back to a desolate Earth for a round of golf. Each hole in the wasteland offers its own little story and possible puzzle to sink the perfect shot. Play through destroyed brutalist monuments, crumbling shopping malls, and abandoned museums as neon signs and poignant graffiti take swings at current events, Silicon Valley culture and humanity.

Piece together the full story of how humanity fell through three distinct sources. Details from the lone golfer’s story, who's come back to Earth for one last game. The Radio Nostalgia From Mars broadcast that gives a glimpse into the lives of those who escaped. And the narration of a “secret spectator” watching from a distance...
Be accompanied by a purposefully composed soundtrack as well as personal stories broadcasted on Radio Nostalgia From Mars. The station caters to citizens of Mars, nostalgic for Earth as they listen to music from the 2020s, and dial in to share their memories of the planet. A smooth-voiced radio DJ keeps the show flowing with updates and announcements hinting at a not-so-glamorous life on Mars.

Three distinct modes mean every golfer can find something for their tastes. Casual players can focus just on the story and a relaxing scenic round of golf in Story Mode. Those looking for an extra challenge can beat each hole under par using skill and puzzle solving through Challenge Mode. While the total pros can try Iron Mode, where there’s almost zero room for error. Easy-to grasp controls and a minimalist UI underpin the whole game so anyone can easily pick up and play at their own pace.

Included with every copy of the game is the digital Golf Club: Nostalgia Official Soundtrack plus a Graphic Novel Art Book that further expands the back story of the lone golfer Charley in a stunning visual format.

No matter how good the radio in the background is, it is still a golf game and the golf part sucks. There is no sensible logic behind how you're hitting a ball and how far it goes making the game just frustrating.
A worthwhile torture for Sure
Not everyone likes golf, but the challenges although quite hard are not impossible and with the exception of the longer ones are actually good fun. The holes do get harder, but they also get more fun, drawing you on, because you just have to reach the last hole. The longer challenges are made special by the dulcet tones of a live DJ. Finally, the ending is as bitter as a home brewed red wine is intoxicating.
Great Story
So, it's a game with golf, but it's also another level. Golf is an escape, it's a solo escape, just you and your handicap. Can you play better than par? Can you save a life, can you save 99% of the lives on earth. This simple golf game digs a lot deeper than the cover art implies and for that it gets a solid 10/10. The golf game is pretty simple and solid. Fun things happen if you hit the ball into a dark corner sometimes. And do it often enough and you get an accomplishment or two. Which probably gives completionist players hours and hours of fun. All the while the soundtrack keeps playing, no loops, just archival material that keeps coming.
Be a rogue grab a club and steal a golf caddy
For me the commentar…

• Approximate amount of time to 100%: 4h* (*including save files swap for "Iron Will!" • Estimated achievement difficulty: 4/10* • Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1* • Multiplayer achievements: 0 • Missable achievements: 0 • Grinding Achievements: 0 • DLC-Only achievements: 0 • Time-gated achievements: 0 • RNG-achievements: 0 • Unobtainable/glitched achievements: 0 • Does difficulty affect achievements: Yes ("Iron Will!") • Point of no return: 0 • Guides: "Complete Achievements Guide" by Zesty and "Golf Club Nostalgia" by TishaJoker (save files) • First achievement unlock: Let the ball fall in the first hole (1st level). Relaxing enough. I liked the gameplay, although the story doesn't fit here. It could be removed without hesitations. "Iron Will!" is a cancer achievement. Lucky me there is a save files to finish the game.

Great vibe. Actually fun gameplay. But it deserved much better writing. Boring overused tropes, millennial slop. But it doesn't get in the way too much.

Fun overall. The writing is pretty bad. Feels like a 17 year wrote it. Lacks any sort of subtly, Regardless, worth 2 dollars.
