About Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land
Ready for a retro adventure? Join Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land, an 8-hour JRPG that’s a love letter to the Game Boy era. Getting home shouldn't be this hard, but for a gumball who's just crash-landed, you take what you can get. A local Scarecrow can send you back, but his magic is busted. What starts as a simple errand for a spellbook becomes a huge quest to find 7 Hallowed Patches. But something is also wrong in the land itself: a shadowy force known only as the Chaos Sweets has usurped the competitive spirit of Trick-or-Treat Land and seeks to turn all candy into coal. To find the patches, you'll have to deal with everyone from cranky vegetables to ghoulish mob bosses. Luckily, you won't be alone. You'll convince a few local misfits to join your party and help even the odds on your journey to restore the joy of trick-or-treating.Explore an immersive overworld, cast spells, and brew potions in a single-player campaign full of twists and turns. You'll master a unique, turn-based Trick-or-Treating battle system and take on a huge main quest and dozens of surprising side quests. While the overworld puzzles are straightforward, the real challenge lies in the turn-based combat. It’s a game that is designed to be lighthearted, but challenging enough to appeal to all ages!

It's an endearing adventure packed with character and atmosphere that isn't overly complicated or stressful. You explore lots of little towns and strange places, there's even movement abilities that help you zoom around which I really appreciated. Combat is straight forward with some recruitable companions that help keep it fresh. If you remember playing old JRPGs like this it hits all the right notes, if you're new to them then this is a great modern take on one. It was the perfect game to play surrounded by my pets while it rained all day.9 found this helpful
MY game time didn't track properly. This game feels like mixture or Pokemon, Earthbound, and many other weird JRPGs. The art style is great for a GameBoy game. This game has great writing and is packed to the brim with charm! Worth the the price of admission and then some.2 found this helpful
Pokemon without the Pokemon. A classic RPG set in the style of a gameboy color game. I felt the combat was tedious and unnecessary but that is kind of my opinion of retro RPGs in and of themselves. I wanted to explore the world but there was an enemy at every step waiting to initiate the same combat loop over and over. Even the first boss I came across was the same thing just multiplied 3 times. Although this is not for me, this is for someone. I recommend this if you are wanting a true Gameboy color experience.2 found this helpful

A charming turn based RPG with a premise themed around Halloween. Sometimes I like a simple 1 on 1 RPG and this is exactly that but the combat can get a bit tiresome towards the end as there are a lot of battles and if you are like me and don't save often enough you can end up redoing large chunks of them as they come in bunches. Story is simple but enjoyable, there's tons of quirky and funny dialogue scattered across the world with many NPCs to interact with. Visuals are appropriately charming, music is very good and there's plenty to do and explore. Outside of the main quest you'll be rewarded adequately for doing side-quests and exploring. This is a easy recommendation as it definitely feels like a GBC RPG but also has some modern touches to it's gameplay to not make it feel like it's dated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65GfunMJYlI1 found this helpful
It's charming and has fun dialogue, but the combat is incredibly tedious and you're constantly forced to have the same slapfights against the same enemies.
