Habroxia

Very nice retro shoot'em'up inspired to the classics from the first half of the 80s - except the difficulty: this is a very chilled, easy game (I found it quite easy at hard mode as well). A small indie team of just 3 people absolutely nailed the graphics, and the gameplay is also very good, noteworthy how it also features changes in direction from horizontal to vertical which is not trivial to implement (I did some amateurish project myself). The music is OK, but gets repetitive soon, as I found the game quite relaxing I put a podcast in the background instead. The story is serviceable but barebone as it's pretty normal in these games. Took 4 hours to complete all game modes, although you can get more bang for your buck if you want to enter the top 10 leaderbord or beat your friends. Although I'm not generally a fan of roguelike features in this kind of game, where I rather prefer to get good just practicing, they are implemented well and they flow quite nicely in the game completion, without the need to resort to grinding.

Good classic Shmup, solid gameplay. Switches horizontal and vertical at some points. Unlock hard- and new game modes for replayability.

I’ll be honest: I didn't expect much from Habroxia. Shooters like this aren't usually my style, and I only picked it up because it came in the Lillymo bundle. It wasn't even the main game I was looking for, but it has somehow become my favorite of the bunch. This has become my go-to "sit back and relax" game. Something fun to "zone out" too much like playing Tetris. It's been perfect for: Chilling with family while still being engaged. Listening to Netflix/Podcasts in the background. Killing time when you only have a few minutes to spare. Overall, what's worked for me is the progression system is incredibly satisfying. Even if you only have a short session, you’re constantly accumulating credits. Slowly maxing out my ship's upgrades and pushing through Hard Mode feels rewarding rather than frustrating. It’s easy to pick up, play a level, and put it down without feeling like you lost your flow. I honestly don't know exactly who I’d recommend this to since I’m not even a fan of the genre, yet I’ve personally loved every minute of it. Good Game!

Habroxia is something I normally wouldn't have played. I like "space shooters" or [i]schmups[/i] of whatever thematic quite a bit though so I decided to forgoe the profile feature limited worries and give this one a go. I'd say this game really earns it's stripes! A testament to a game is always when the gameplay outshines the cutscenes; that's the case with this game. You could say that just means the cutscenes should be better; but in reality we interact with the game most outside of those instances and want gameplay to handle and be as pretty as possible. I typically don't review a game until I'm done with it for a bit but decided to do so just after beating normal mode just in case it helps this title any. I picked up Habroxia 1 & 2 (90% off for $1.48) an insane value for a game that is simply fun to play. Cheers to hoping 2 is as well.
