Halls of Torment: Prelude

Fun enough, something to play while waiting for other more interesting games to release. Would recommend to just buy the complete game if you are going to play it. Easy achievement points. I would like shorter runs though.

This game is pretty cool. The demo is beefy, let's you go deep. A Diablo styled Survivor game mix, I'm doing the Prelude before the full game and it's good.

Halls of Torment: Prelude is one of those games that looks simple at first but has a lot more going on once I start playing it. It is a free standalone prelude to Halls of Torment, built around surviving waves of enemies in short runs that usually take around 30 minutes. I choose a character, enter the Halls and try to survive long enough to take down the bosses waiting for me. The old school look gives it a really nice late 90s RPG feel, and I like how well that darker style fits the setting. The combat is what keeps me interested. I am constantly moving through huge groups of enemies while picking up experience, choosing upgrades and trying to build a character that can handle the later waves. I have three characters to use in the Prelude, and the different abilities give me a reason to approach runs differently. The bosses are also more interesting than simply being bigger enemies, since they have their own attack patterns and mechanics that I need to learn. I like that the game expects me to pay attention rather than letting me completely switch off while everything attacks automatically. The progression is probably the strongest part for me.
