Although, in the game, you're seated, in real life, it's extremely difficult to play this game seated. The physics in the game are a bit wonky, so the cable/connector often drops, but there's no 'magnetic' grip, so your virtual hand needs to pick up the connector. But when you're playing seated, the connector can be out of reach, for example, lower than the sofa you're sitting in :). After a while of continuously trying to pick it up, I quit the game. Too bad, because I loved the visuals, the atmosphere and the voices and weirdness.2 found this helpful
Overall, it's free, so I won't be too harsh on it. It's an interesting, but pretty flawed experience. For one, I don't know how you're meant to find the next call. I just plugged into each slot in order until I found a call. Trial and error seems like a dumb way to handle that. It worked for me and I got to the end, but still wasn't very fun or interesting. The scares also could've been better. I liked the environment changes, but there should've been a few more in your face scares. Last, and most importantly, the whole game builds up to you finding a note that explains the story... a note with text too small for me to read. So I beat the game, but don't know what happened because they messed up the font size. That's a pretty sour note to go out on. Still, the ride was decent overall.
"Hang Up" is a short and pointless narrative driven VR tech demo where you run an old-timey analog telephone exchange and connect callers to their recipients, and listen in as you do, wherein the trite little tech demo story is unravelled. What do you do in the game? Not much, it's a very short experience and you'll spend most of your time just getting the thing to work with your VR headset. And even then only one controller will work, not both, because, you know, game jam. That's right, game jam. This is not a sincerely made product, it was made for a game jam, which is a problem. It was done in a constrained period of time; professional game development takes years of effort from teams of talented and qualified people. A "game" slapped together in a weekend by an amateur simply isn't going to have any value for gamers, and that plays out clearly with this shovelware. Also, products created in game jams were never intended for gamers, they exist only to stroke the ego of amateur developers who can't get a real job in the industry. When developers, especially untalented ones, put themselves before gamers, garbage like "Hang Up" is the inevitable result. It's improper for…
