Harvest Island

I wouldn't believe my self that I really enjoyed the game! Farming sim is not my in my alley so thank God it has a Story Mode where the farming aspect can be easier and will be focused on the progression of the story instead which made me wanna play the game. Farming Aspect - It might not be on par with Stardew Valley but it's the basics you get as it is and I like it! Cozziness - Environment, music, plus bonding moments of the siblings? Very nice but it's not that cozy cozy cozy fully since it has- HORROR - The story? I got hooked and rootin for the siblings and the plot resembles [spoiler]Promised Neverland[/spoiler] which made me want to know what will happen because the anime version of it didn't really meet the expectation of the audience (ppt slides to wrap up the season 2) but I know there's manga of it but I don't read that much so I don't mind if it has references on that. So in the end, it feels like the game has potential to offer something more what the anime can't do, personally The scares? The setup? It's a-okay but it would be nice if it has variations and such like what the usual horror can do maybe if it has a [spoiler]a chase scene at the end[/spoiler] would …

This is absolutely a hidden gem of a game. It's a bit slow to start, but once you get going? Buckle up for a wild ride. This game does an incredible job of making you feel unnerved and creeped out just as you start to feel safe again. The story is far darker than I initially thought it was, I thought I was getting a "stardew-like game with a twist" and what I got was so much more than that. I highly recommend it!

Farming/horror mishmash with RPGMaker vibes. The game wins a lot of points for the degree of freedom it gives you in how you're able to explore and progress while still maintaining the atmosphere. The early game relies a lot on menus and repeating simple tasks and gathering lists of items. If you're playing on normal mode, the inventory/stamina systems encourage doing these at first, as the rewards you get enable you to explore much farther. As you gather enough stamina and space, you become inclined to ignore the farming mechanics and focus more heavily on exploring the unknown, encountering horrors, and advancing the narrative. I've seen people criticize the shallowness of the farming mechanics but I think they play well into the narrative, as it feels like you're outgrowing your small pen and gradually getting yourself into more trouble as you push the boundaries you've been given. The characters have a lot of dialog back-and-forth throughout the game that also reinforces this shift. As you begin to question why you're doing the things you're doing, so do they. The pacing here is important to keep emotional investment so you don't get too bogged down in any one aspect and …

Amazing balance to the gameplay. I constantly forgot I was playing a horror game which made it hit hard when I got to the next story beat.

Game keeps crashing

Overall, I really enjoyed this game! It is something different and unique, I personally haven’t played anything like Harvest Island and will be keeping an eye out for similar games. Absolutely loved the concept. I do agree, to an extent, with the other comments that the ending could be better and the twist wasn’t necessarily shocking but I will still be purchasing The Chains That Bound Me when it is released and it hasn’t put me off. The main issue I have with the ending (other than the obvious Will storyline) is that it feels incomplete, I understand this is to sell separate DLCs but I think it should wrap the game up enough to complete the storyline, but that is just an opinion and I’m sure there are lots of people who feel like the ending does complete the story. I would still purchase new game releases and DLCs to continue playing even with some closure on the initial stretch of the story so it does feel a bit disappointing to put all the hours in and not truly find out what happens within the base game. With that being said, I loved the game and really appreciate it when devs actually try and think of a unique concept and not just stick to your typical farming sims. …
