About Have a Nice Death
You play as Death working your way through procedurally-generated departments of Death Inc., slashing through enemies with 70+ weapons and spells while unlocking permanent upgrades after each run. This darkly charming roguelike blends fast-paced combat with strategic power choices that reshape each playthrough through dynamic curse mechanics and office politics.

Welcome to Have a Nice Death 1.0!
Huge thank you to our community during our Early Access journey! You can now experience the eighth department - the Inevitable Time Department - with a new boss, mini-boss, enemies, the end of the storyline, "quality of death" improvements and much more.

Discover and explore the darkly-charming, procedurally-generated departments of Death Inc., where you’ll meet a diverse cast of memorable characters—like your affable pumpkin-headed assistant, Pump Quinn—who are always willing to share the latest office gossip
Sharpen your skills (and scythe) through fast-paced hack n’ slash combat, utilizing over 70 unique weapons and spells you can find and upgrade to create devastating combinations
Since Death can’t die, use what you’ve learned and earned to overcome the numerous minions and bosses in each department of Death Incorporated... over and over. A performance review after every run guarantees that you’ll unlock interesting items and upgrades that will help you progress on your journey
Taking more power for yourself is a controversial move in Death Incorporated’s company culture. For instance, adopting a Curse upgrade for yourself might result in the Labor Inspector granting your subordinates enhanced powers, or worse, raising the cost of koffee and other items that are vital to your work outputDLC & expansions

What Steam players say

I do NOT understand the appeal here. I play every well reviewed hack and slash ARPG or Roguelike that comes through Steam. It's repetitive, it's illogical- it does not become clear what it is you're doing, the dialogue goes on for ages, and the game play never really changes either. You complete long clicking sequences to just get the characters to do whatever they're supposed to do for you- and you keep fighting the same mini and full bosses. I'm many hours in and haven't beaten the first play through- I even tried easy mode. It's monotonous, and you just don't feel like anything is going to augment or make it better at any point. The unlocking of new things doesn't feel specific either- you keep unlocking but have no clear way to utilize the new items except for the most recent one you unlocked.. This is a waste of money and time. Very disappointed.
Cool Design. Same Floors. Same Enemies. And it`s hard wihout a reason. At 3th boss the hp goes crazy. Very sad too see.
Good stuff 'nuff said.
Only a few hours into a game where I enjoy the art style and I am bored is an incredibly bad sign. This is a side-scrolling 2D beat 'em up that randomizes the environment you fight in after every screen. However the randomized environments look alike. Every Level. It doesn't matter how enjoyable the art style is, if there is no switch up, it's just a lot of staring at the same couple of screen and enemies and very quickly becomes boring. The combat is also quite dry. You don't really pick up new abilities until after fighting the first boss. I will try to finish the game despite the tedium, but I don't think I will be changing my opinion on this game.
Charming character design and creative narrative. The gameplay is however so severely out of balance with sheer amount of artificial difficulty that you won't see 90% of the game has to offer and spend 90% of your time grinding the same first few levels. I don't see this game as successful unless you have the chance to practice almost every single boss 50x times even on "EZ" mode like in metrovania without starting at the beginning in a roguelike fasion.
Fun game, I enjoy the design and game play of it. I bought on sale for like 8$ and got 163 hours out of it I would say I got my moneys worth. When ever it goes on a steam sale buy it, and for 25$ for price is still a good deal. I'd Just wish list it and wait for a summer winter fall steam sale and pick it up for under 10$, but I am just a big sale kinda guy.
