About Hegemony III: Clash of the Ancients

The Battle for the Ancient World has Begun!

Centuries before Caesar, Alexander or Philip, the forested hills and rocky coasts of ancient Italy draw cultures from across the Mediterranean with promises of wealth and prosperity. Bronze-clad hoplites from the powerful Greek city-states set sail across the Adriatic to carve out bridgeheads of Hellenic culture amongst the native Italic hill tribes, while aggressive bands of Gallic Skirmishers make the trek South across the Alps in search of fertile new land. And along the marshy banks of the Tiber river, a small upstart city called Rome battles for independence from the established Etruscan confederacy.

But only one faction can rise to become the greatest empire the Mediterranean has ever seen. Will Rome fulfil its destiny to rule the ancient world or will history be rewritten to forge a new Etruscan, Gallic, or Greek hegemony!

Command Armies

Direct armies of hoplites and legionaries on the battlefield in paused or real-time. Plot flanking manoeuvres or snap units into larger formations using intuitive and precise controls.

Manage Resources

Its an awesome real time grand strategy game in the Roman era, they don't make games like this anymore.

Love the need to consider logistics, money, resources... limited diplomacy however, means you just end up blobbing the map. Would love to see a more active diplomacy with the ability to form trade networks, protectorates and alliances with other factions.

The anti-player bias where the AI spawns exactly at the worst times is a pretty annoying to simulate a challenge. If you're going to allow the AI to magically communicate, it should be a game feature. Sending diplomats, or scouts, which as other players have mentioned they don't actually do (scouts are a feature, but AI doesn't have to send them to get full visibility and knowledge of player's forces). I really don't like games where AI gets access to entire mechanics that the player doesn't. I want to give it more of a chance but my first impression is that I'm going to play it out of spite, hoping I will eventually understand it, because I really want to like it. Diplomacy is really basic. I just don't enjoy games where your two options are declare war or make peace. No alliances, no paying other tribes to war with other tribes, no buying/selling cities, not even trading/selling extra resources. It is fun for what it is, but I don't really feel like it carved out a good enough niche just because of supply lines. Nothing beats the original Rome Total War (not remastered) for city and population management, and having to dip into population for recruits. That game is 2 decade…
