I don't know exactly why it is, but I can't stop playing! Sure, graphics aren't good. Not by today's standards and not even 2014. It's also not as complex and deep (strategy and tactical wise) as Total War, BUT it does do some things very differently, plus it has some QoL stuff, that isn't even available in all/most other such games. Gold for instance is a fixed resource. You don't get more every "tick", but a fixed amount per mine or mission or from cities (taxes). This seems weird at first, but makes it actually very easy to control AND it allows you to try stuff. You need some money back? Destroy a wall in cities/camps that are no longer at the fringes. Thus reducing the "maintenance" cost of this structure. Or disband a unit, eliminating the units salary. Unrest of conquered cities is about the same as in other games, but with a very unique twist: you can "build" hostages and send them out of the enemies land (to your home city) and this will solve that issue :-) To be fair: it's a bit too easy to deal with unrest like that, but I had Total War games (especially the older ones), where this issue was uncontrollable and I've lost a lot of cities and income and stuff... so a mi…4 found this helpful
Good game, good addition to the series. Well designed scenario play Sandbox is enjoyable, AI doing good challenges, but after so many factions played becomes a bit repetitive. Experiencing some performance issues (lag in time progress and click delay) in sandbox late phase.2 found this helpful

It is a good concept of Grand Strategy and RTS. If you like Caesar, especially the thought of managing his Gallic Campaign, this is a must play.1 found this helpful
