About Hell of a Lie

Hell of a Lie is a point-and-click adventure with detective and psychological elements where you play as a demon intern working in Hell’s bureaucracy.Your job is to make deals for human souls. But nothing is ever simple — every person has their own fears, dreams, and weaknesses that must be uncovered first. To close a deal, you must investigate people's lives and understand what they truly desire: love, power, success, money, revenge, or something else.

Investigate Human Stories

The gameplay focuses on investigating the lives of different people. You will explore locations connected to each character, such as:
  • apartments
  • offices
  • streets
  • personal belongings
  • photographs
  • letters and messages
In these places you must search for hidden objects, clues, and evidence that reveal a person’s personality and hidden desires. You may discover:
  • letters
  • photographs
  • diary entries
  • scattered objects
  • strange symbols
  • memories from the past
Every clue helps you better understand the character.

Puzzle and Deduction

Each discovered object becomes part of a larger puzzle that helps reveal what truly motivates the person.Players must analyze information and connect clues together. For example, finding unpaid bills, a photo of a former partner, and a diploma from an abandoned career may reveal that the character fears failure and loneliness.Understanding these motivations is the key to making a successful deal.

Deals for Souls

After gathering enough information, you confront the person and offer them a deal.Your offer must reflect their deepest desires and fears. Each deal becomes a moral decision:
  • exploit their weakness
  • manipulate their dreams
  • refuse the deal
  • choose an unexpected outcome
Your choices determine the fate of the character.
