Hexes (2023)

This is one of the games I go to when I need to turn my brain static levels down. When thinking hurts. When I desperately want to feel smart but it's a "cannot brain - I haz the stupids today" kind of evening. The soundtrack is JUST enough for my Autism flavored brain to stick around, without overstimulating me if I'm upset. (but also I'm pretty sure there's a mute button if that changes?) (edited July 2024 to reflect an updated understanding of why my brain gets fussy about background music differently when I'm already low on spoons)

Hexes is a fun and addictive puzzle game with simple mechanics of moving gems and matching colors to prevent the board from filling up. The smooth gameplay and attractive interface make it highly recommended for puzzle game lovers! (´｡• ᵕ •｡`) ♡

Play and vibe type game, the music is chill where you lose track of time. It's an interesting concept for a puzzle game, the kinda game you can spend hours on while de-stressing

I enjoy the concept it is an odd puzzle game but the randomness is nice it is really well done

This is really nice game, a creative way to match Hexes in a nice puzzle setting. I like the simple controls and how much strategy you need when deciding your next move. Good visuals and good use of sounds. Overall a fun game I would recommend to friends and gamers!

If anything, this game presents quite a neat idea to be implemented further in bigger games. It is set on a rhombus with hexagons coming from each of its sides depending on your placement options. The arrows let you make that choice and move the ones inside it simultaneously in order to match 3 or more and clear them. While this might not sound like an enticing variation on the genre in theory, in practice you may lose countless minutes paying attention to the colours, planning future movements of the pieces and even trying to figure out ways to create combos. Indeed, as a prototype it works really well by having a grabbing gameplay loop. And that is really the highlight as the rest is background music and some sprites. Having said that, for casual arcade fans this may be up your alley as well as those in the mobile market department looking for an idea to base their future project on and implement it further (without microtransactions please).
