About HEXTERMINATE

"This galaxy is ours." — Emperor Elion VII

A fairly straightforward statement, although not one echoed by all of the other factions in the galaxy. HEXTERMINATE puts you in command of the Imperial flagship, under orders to conquer the galaxy. Diplomacy has been discarded in favour of the "more firepower" approach, as 'making friends' is not on the Emperor's agenda. How difficult can it be?

  • Modular construction
Each ship is built out of hexagonal modules which slot together, including armour, reactors and weapons. With dozens of different types and rarity levels, you build the spec you want. It is your choice how you will tackle galactic conquest: from massive behemoths with layered armour to blitzing sniper battlecruisers. Given that every module is individually destructible, a few well placed shots at your enemy's ships can be devastating.
  • A living galaxy
The galaxy changes over time as the various factions vie for power. Fleets embark on missions, sectors are won and lost, every game will play out differently. Even in the middle of a fight reinforcements can turn the tide for either side.

  • Your own fleet
Assemble a fleet to accompany you in your quest, from long range gunships, front-line battleships and support vessels. Or decide to keep all the glory for yourself, fighting on your own against a hostile galaxy.
  • Perk system
Further customise how you tackle HEXTERMINATE by acquiring perks as you destroy enemy ships: from access to experimental ships to add to your fleet to increased rate of fire for each landed shot, you'll find a range of options to complement your style of play.

This is a hard one to rate but I'm ultimately going to give it a thumbs down. It's free, and it has fun gameplay, but it has a lot of small quality of life problems that make it hard for me to say is worth it. I'm going to focus on the negatives: The ability to visually distinguish anything going on is VERY poor. In almost every map I played over 8 hours, there is a giant white blob in the center of the screen (that probably is 50-60% of the total screen space) that you cannot move away from. It overwhelms the senses, and made it impossible to even see where I am aiming, if enemy ships had shields up, or honestly, even if I had my own shields up. All the colors blend together and it's impossible to tell what is going on. There are zero settings that I could find that would allow me to disable this or recolor things to make things visible. A minor gripe, but the resolution seems locked to well below what I was using on my monitor. The text to tell you what is going on is super tiny and scrunched up to the top of the screen, and the main menu only filled the top third of my screen. It's 2024 and we can't get customized resolutions, even in a free game? As I type this up, I wonder …

This game is very easy to play tho you do want a mouse for ion weapons and torpedos but the game is also decently easy unless your unprepared form acents or irani fleets they will tear you apart.

A pretty interesting game, but still quite a few issues at present. I played through the campaign on medium difficulty, and (almost) all of the second game mode on hard, and found a few bugs and a few balance issues that, once fixed, could leave a very solid game. - The core idea behind the game seems to be that the player has allies fighting alongside him, but that doesn't go very far. The allies don't really use tactics of any kind, and there are only four of them, whereas there are several dozen enemies per sector, each with better stats. There's a skill that routes the friendly ships on the global map towards player battles, which is cool, but even then, they don't make it very far, and they spend time chasing down small cleanup fights when they could be capturing territory. - On that note, the second wave of friendly unlocks seem to be worse outright than the first 6k ship. The last set of ship unlocks, at the end of the tree, has a better ship, but even it doesn't last that long. - Moreover, every type of enemy other than the basic red and brown guys has a special mechanic that amounts to "use your shield/barrier to block this attack or it will kill your ship", an…

Difficulty abruptly rising after completion of several campaigns reminds me of another hexagonal ship building game whose protagonist is a space trunk pilot
