Hextones: Spacetime

Hextones: Spacetime is a mobile app tier block placement game where you're given a hex grid and a bunch of hexagons that you need to carefully place, trying to match colours and symbols. Yeah, it's extremely shallow. Apparently if you match enough, you can travel through space. I certainly wanted to get off the planet after playing this rubbish. It's also worth pointing out the developer has already published this game on Steam as "Hextones"... it's unclear why they published the same game twice, but the presence of review manipulation also raises some deep concerns about this game from an unethical Brazilian shovelware pusher. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy minimalist/untextured low-polygon "retro" assets and visuals, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. The lack of textures is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with…

The developer decided to be a copyright troll. They somehow got a retroactive trademark registered, bullying other developers into changing names of their games. As this hits indie developers, most won't have the money to fight this. Those who don't get the message in time face to be delisted. So I want to thank Nukearts, the devloper of this game, to make it easier to safe money and not support them in the future. I don't support companies and people making the world an even worse place as it already is.

Works on Windows 7 and on Linux Mint (using Proton Compatibility Mode)! What can I say.... it's a game where you have to match pieces up. Same color or symbols have to be next to each other. Mostly it's a no-brainer, but it does take a little thought an planning. I like to play this one when I just wanna vege out. Price is decent ($1.99). Soundtrack is awesome....I actually got it for that more than anything. I cant say much more than that. Hope it helps.

why did they make another one

Could be released as a mere update for the first game. It is the same, but now there is an option to play with a timer to make it more challenging. You can also choose to play between 3 different grid layouts which could be created easily by the community if the game had a level editor. Instead of the queue giving you one hextone ( hextones are the puzzle pieces ) it now gives you 3 to choose from. I liked the new soundtrack and there is some kind of alien on the side that will play an animation for some events. Normally I would say skip the first game and get this instead, since it is cheap and has both the features of the first game and the ones added here. But I find it a little bold from the developer to charge double the price and release the same game with minimal changes as a standalone sequel. You can tell it didn't take much work as it released a couple of months after the predecessor.

Interesting tile-matching puzzle game. Neat but not in love.
