Hidden Mysteries: Titanic

First time player here. Can't say I play for nostalgia reasons, just wanted to see what this Titanic game has to offer. Surprisingly, the game feels alright and runs smoothly on Windows 11, with no frame drops or lag, and the save works well so you don't need to finish in one session. The game begins at boarding and ends when you survive after the sinking. The bonus unlocks after completion, a nice 5-minute gameplay segment diving into the water, checking different rooms of Titanic as the captain gives dialogue on how and why the Titanic sank - message system ignorance, high speed, bad shipping route, unheated rivets, bulkheads... Nice for players who are interested in learning a few facts (And let's ignore the age of the captain). The game is fully voiced and sounds good, yet some plot points don't stand up to scrutiny, like how the captain can be so relaxed after the hit, how the little boy boarded alone, a scientist created a one-way mirror and hidden in the ship, and decipher an Egypt thing? Not to mention to go against the captain’s decision to damage the engines, use a pot of potatoes in the food lift to crash a box. Those went a bit too far. Some puzzles are reasonable, l…

I first played this game as a wee little child on the CD-ROM version of the title. I would hole up in my computer room and download the contents of the disc and play them, along with various other I-Spy inspired titles, many in the Hidden Mysteries series, diligently across the course of a few years. It has cemented itself as a sophisticated part of my childhood and is a good memory for both me and my sister. Only a few months ago, my partner rewarded me with a copy of this game on Steam, due to the fact I don't have a usable CD-ROM reader anymore on my more modern computer, and other options like playing on BigFish Games were also not available to me. I decided to play this game with my friends in mind today as a trip down memory lane to when I was only 6 or 7 years old. What I was met with was a masterful representation of the Titanic story from the eyes of a young woman that I could not properly appreciate when I was a child.
