About Hirogami

Hirogami is a 3D action platformer inspired by the ancient Japanese art of origami (paper folding). Everything you encounter has been crafted to convey the physical, often fragile, natural world of paper, amidst a story interwoven with threads of wistful intrigue. Discover new forms to traverse the world, solve puzzles, and best your foes. Roll through obstacles and enemies alike as a hardy Armadillo, traverse the treetops and pound pests as a mighty Ape, and leap to previously unreachable heights as a formidable Frog. A powerful force of digital creatures - the Blight - is invading the world, defiling the delicate natural balance that has held sway for an age. As Hiro, an enigmatic performer (and master of the art of folding) from Shishiki village, it falls to you to cleanse the mind-warped inhabitants of this world, and to bring peace back to the land. Explore every nook and cranny and discover all the world’s hidden secrets. Unfold into a sheet of paper to ride fiery updrafts, or to slide under deadly traps. Or become a paper plane to traverse dangerous chasms. This origami world is a fragile place, and you’ll need your wits about you to protect it. Wield Hiro’s paper fan to blow away the Blight, or pound, pummel, or poison them using your litany of papery powers.
Bask in a soundscape composed using traditional Japanese instruments and styles - specially crafted to evoke the variety of themes, characters and settings of Hirogami.

I'm reviewing this game after the major update of October 23rd, which resolved a lot of the "boss locking" issues mentioned in many other reviews. Positives:

Great art style and soundtrack.
Solid story telling, doesn't feel forced or artificial.
Fun platforming and puzzles
Easy enough for casual playthroughs, yet enough of a challenge for completionists.
Negatives:

The camera can sometimes be a bit wonky and not give you the best viewing angle for that moment.
Couple of small bugs/inconsistencies here and there, but nothing that will stop you from continuing.
Conclusion: Fun platformer with great art and innovative ideas. Give the game a chance if you have the time! For those who stopped playing because of the level locking the major update helps a lot and I hope you can finish it up further.

There is no other way to say this but this was a bad game. Poorly designed game. A miserable gaming experience. Which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like this game. I was excited to play it at first then the more i played the more apparent it became this was a terribly designed. Awful platforming, questionable level design, a fixed camera that made me want to pull my hair out, and combat that was so atrocious combat that was NOT needed or warranted. The list of complaints and nick picks goes on. I'm sorry but this was a pain to play and by the end i didn't want play anymore I didn't care about it at all. The only redeeming aspect left is the transformation system which feels like it the part of the game that was well made. The fluid swapping between the different animal forms and the variety of uses of those forms throughout the game was good but sometimes I questioned the need or point of the humanoid form. I don't know. I don't care anymore.

Y'know, I liked it, but I think this is one time where I get the low reviews. It released on the same day as Silksong. I applaud the bravery, but a delay probably would have helped the game, especially if they ran a public closed playtest just to iron out some of the collectathon hurdles that people have with the game. Same issue Tembo the Badass Elephant had, which is kind of a completely different platformer, but weirdly the same flaw! Oh yeah also the story makes approximately half of a lick of sense.

It's a nice platformer but it lacks ultrawide support!
