Hive Jump, developed and published by Graphite Lab, is an energetic fusion of run-and-gun platforming, roguelite structure, and old-school cooperative mayhem. Set in a distant future where humanity is locked in a desperate war against swarming alien hives, it puts players in the boots of the Jump Corps—elite soldiers tasked with diving into hostile alien nests to eradicate the threat from within. The game’s premise is simple but engaging: descend through procedurally generated hives, collect resources, upgrade your arsenal, and fight your way toward the queen at the bottom. Every run is a self-contained operation that tests your reflexes, teamwork, and ability to manage chaos under pressure. It’s an experience that pays tribute to the side-scrolling shooters of the past while adding a layer of strategy and replayability that keeps it fresh for modern audiences. The first thing that grabs your attention in Hive Jump is its presentation. The pixel art is bold and confident, with detailed animations and vivid colors that perfectly capture the atmosphere of a bug-infested alien world. Explosions burst in thick clouds of pixels, enemy death animations are satisfyingly chunky, and weapo…

Super fun in co-op I'd imagine But in singleplayer? Too punishing -- not the fact that you die too quick, but the penalty for death is losing too much in the stupid turn-based strategy layer that is also behind it. I thought this was dead cells in space. I thought wrong

Many of my achievements for this game are gold, so it seems that most people aren't playing this game for long. I don't really see why, though. I think it's fun, especially with some friends! Admittedly, it does get a bit redundant, but I'm not sick of it yet.

Fun, but Repetitive for the Solo Jumper Played on my Steam Deck OLED and it runs flawlessly on Linux, even from the microSD card. The pixel art looks absolutely fantastic on that OLED screen. Hive Jump has a really solid foundation. The core run 'n gun action feels tight and satisfying, just like the professional reviews say. The "permadeath-lite" mechanic with the backpack is a cool twist that adds some nice tension. However, as a solo player, I found the repetition set in very quickly for me, it was about 1.5 hours in. The core loop of blasting through procedurally generated hives is fun at first, but the lack of enemy variety and the limited number of environmental themes (Fire, Ice, etc.) make each run start to feel too similar. I can see this being a blast in local co-op for short bursts, but playing alone, the grind becomes noticeable fast. It's a well-made game that sadly just doesn't have the long-term content to keep a single player hooked. I didn't pursue all the achievements because the core gameplay wasn't varied enough to motivate me. Verdict: A competent and good-looking co-op platformer that falls short for solo players due to repetitive gameplay.
