STORY

Ryoutarou Shinozaki has been forced to live abroad for most of his life due to his parents’ work, but he's kept in touch with his childhood friend Tooru Hanazono—if only to gripe.

With Ryoutarou unable to overcome the language barrier overseas, and his yearning for his native country of Japan growing more with every passing day, Tooru sympathizes with his old pal enough to ask his parents if they’d let Ryoutarou come stay with them in Japan...
And after talking it over with Ryoutarou’s parents, they’ve agreed to let him move in! Not only is Ryoutarou thrilled to finally return home... but perhaps he’ll even find love?!

CHARACTERS

Emi Hanazono (Voice: Iroha Haruno)
A freshwoman at Hanyuu Academy, and a year younger than her childhood friend, Ryoutarou, with whom she reunited when he moved back to Japan.
Emi and Ryoutarou were so close when they were kids that she’d call him Big Brother... despite her already having a big brother, Tooru.
Although she used to be bossy when she was young and always forced Ryoutarou and Tooru to do what she wanted, she’s become much friendlier now that she’s grown up, and is deeply ashamed of the way she used to act.

Mia Tougane (Voice: Honoka Yuuki)
The representative of the class Ryoutarou has transferred to.
Adored by her classmates, she has a bit of a clumsy side that makes everybody worry about her.
She’s also a student librarian at the campus library, and often has duties there after classes end.

Rikako Jinnai (Voice: Shiho Nakaya)
A junior at Hanyuu who loves to run and is a dedicated member of the track and field club.
After spotting her doing morning training, Ryoutarou finds himself sitting next to her during their English class by coincidence, and the two end up becoming fast friends.
Rikako is so shy when it comes to talking to other people, especially guys, that she comes off as cold.
Although she wants to make lots of friends, she’s afraid of giving people the wrong impression.

Misato Suzuyama (Voice: Midori Shirayuki)
A senior at Hanyuu who’s in the same class as Tooru. She’s bright, bubbly and well-liked by both the guys and the girls, and there’s not a student in her year who doesn’t know her.
Caring, fun-loving and positive, Misato won’t hesitate to chat up anybody that takes her interest.

Yuka Karasuma (Voice: Yuki Nekomura)
A first-year at Hanyuu. She is the only daughter of the owner of the prestigious Karasuma Confectionaries. Her overprotective father has assigned a bodyguard in a black suit to accompany her everywhere she goes to protect her from any ‘scoundrels,’ a.k.a. guys. As a result, the other students are reluctant to approach her and she can’t make any friends, which makes her want to rebel against her father and run away from her bodyguard.
Although she keeps up appearances on campus, as Ryoutarou gets to know her, she reveals her innocent side to him.

Rin Yoshimura (Voice: Ion Momoyama)
A senior at Hanyuu, and in the same class as Misato and Tooru.
Due to an embarrassing incident at last year’s beauty contest, she earned herself the nickname ‘the Medusa.’
Now she regrets ever competing in the contest, and hides her face behind her long hair.
While she'll speak to most of the girls, she barely talks to any of the guys.
She often hangs out with Misato, and steps in whenever she bothers Ryoutarou.

Erina Sayama (Voice: Waka Kawata)
The main advisor of Ryoutarou’s class.
She’s popular among her students, who affectionately call her ‘Miss Eri.’
As she’s easy to approach, they often come to her for advice, but the sheer number of students who want to talk to her can be a little overwhelming at times.

Home Sweet Homecoming (or E School Life, the original Japanese name), developed by HOOKSOFT who also made I x She Tell, Houkago Cinderella, and Yubisaki Connection, has some things that stick out about it, but ultimately it’s just another light-hearted slice-of-life romance moege with little to no drama. That does make me hit-or-miss on whether I ultimately recommend this title, especially when I think there are better moege out there, but overall I’d say it’s kinda good—with caveats.
Quantity Kinda Over Quality Options
The main thing that sticks out at first is the number of options Homecoming has compared to most moege. There are 7 love interests—a bit more than the usual 4–5—and thankfully just about all of them are generally pleasant to be around and not too trope-y. There’s also a decent amount of choices in the common route. Not a ton, but more than the usual “modern” moege. Since the title doesn’t have a club gimmick and the heroines mostly don’t hang out with each other, they feel extremely separated. This means you have to deliberately choose to spend time with one, and most of their pre-route screentime comes from the straightforward after-school “who do you …

Pretty good. I liked the MC and the love interests. MC is likable and sociable. Sometimes the relationship between the MC and the girls progressed a little fast after the confession I think, but overall it was okay. Story is slice of life so don't expect anything too unusual.

I was expecting a moege. In reality it's ....another genre, shall we say.

E School Life is a moege. Oh that's too short for a review? It's extremely vanilla. The ED is super catchy and I like it. The H-scene writing is a bit subpar in my opinion. But it's comfy and the stakes are really low. Sometimes being able to turn your brain off and read something like this is nice. I can almost guarantee I'll forget about everything in E School Life except the ED within a month though. Misato > Rikako > everyone else.

If you like a visual novel with pure, wholesome romance, then this is a good one to play.
