Hooplord

This was a game from the Curator program and I kinda had been putting it off for a long while but I finally decided to check it out. It's not a HORRIBLE game, but honestly it wasn't my kind of fun for the long term in VR. I am not generally a fan of sports or games that sorta act like sports. This is a game that's sorta like a free throw basket shooting contest with a twist: You have to make it past a giant rock golem creature thing that will jump and wave his arms any time you shoot. So the game progresses like this: first you are given a ball and you make a free throw shot in the basket. Wow! You managed that so now let's open a bunch of other spots on the court and make you sink baskets from each of those spots. COOL! You managed that... now we'll put in your opponent. All you have to do is move to a spot before the big guy reacts and make a basket before he can get situated to block you. NICE, you did that? Well now we'll add some kind of cloud that randomly floats around and apparently freezes the basketball so it shatters instead of going through the hoop (though sometimes it still goes through the hoop). Video Review: https://youtu.be/JHQGP72nWVM?t=96 A different take on shooting hoops with a Greek God-like feel to it. Shoot the firey balls into the hoop from several different positions. Once you have got the hoop in from a position it darkens to let you know you have completed this position. Once all positions are done you move to the next level. I had trouble getting the ball back at times with the tractor beam tool that you use to return the ball after a shot. The giant gorilla type golf defence was good after a few levels but that rain cloud that broke the balls was annoying but upped the challenge. graphically was very good and the voice work is good making it a small studio game instead of a bedroom dev effort. Overall it's a good game if you want to shoot hoops in VR and are after something a little different. Price is fine as polish has gone into the game. Ran fine with no hassles on my nearing outdated system. Hooplord got interesting idea and nice visuals, but for a basketball-based game having such an unresponsive throwing mechanics is a huge flaw. Pros: + The 'epic fantasy basketball' thing is very kitsch and kinda funny + Low-poly visual style looks good in VR Cons: - Shooting hoops is very easy and boring. Overbearing aim assist completely ruins any possible challenge by taking over every throw. It changes both speed and trajectory of the ball, making it way too easy to score. There should have been a setting to change aim assist influence

The game itself throws you into a mysterious world. All you know is that you must hoop. Pick up a ball and make some shots! Lastly the fire guy spooked me(Big booms) Short yet fun vr experience.

I actually really liked the game, it was well worth $6. An hour and a half of fun, challenges, and fun graphics made for an awesome experience.

It's Basketball meets Shadow of the Colossus. Not the longest game you can buy on Steam, but definitely in the short but sweet category. The art style is a pleasant and consistent low poly look. Sound and controls (played on a Vive) are also well done. As for the game play itself the game helps you line up shoots just enough to not frustrate you while still offering a fair challenge. A lot of fun for a short round every now and then.
