EASY TO LEARN CHINESE

Experts agree that immersion and engagement are key for language learning. Practicing sentence patterns – which is key to learning a language – can be dry and boring. With a role-playing game that provides the needed scaffolding for language learning, you are given the motivation for practicing sentence patterns. You are immersed into a role-playing story where you must use and practice language naturally to be successful.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's innovative concept of blending language learning with narrative adventure, but are frustrated by significant technical and presentation issues that undermine the experience. Common complaints include broken graphics (invisible ground textures), poor stability and crashes, unnatural text-to-speech voices, janky controls, and game-breaking bugs that prevent progression. While many feel the core idea has real potential and educational value, most cannot recommend it at its current price point until these fundamental problems are addressed.

This is such a brilliant idea, and I really wanted to give it a good review, but at the moment it is not worth £6.never mind £16. The graphics have serious faults (the ground is invisible in the first mission) and there needs to be either real updates of for this not to be sold at this price. Which is a shame because, as I said, it is a brilliant idea. At the moment I cannot recommend it alas, because it is quite badly broken. If the graphics problems can be sorted though I'd be happy to recommend it.

I wanted to like this game, but it didn't take long to see that it wasn't what I was looking for. The fact they use TTS for the voices means you aren't hearing anything that seems like normal speech. The stability isn't great, and crashes the steam deck on startup. The controls are janky, and difficult to use. I could see this being great, but it needs more time in the oven and some native speaker voice work.

the concept is awesome. but it needs work. graphics are meh. the dialog is ridged and feels like AI. the mic response could be better. the controls could be smother. but i do like the concept of educational immersion gaming to learn a new language. but at this time cant recommend it until it is a better product.

Hua Mulan: A Chinese Learning Adventure" offers a unique twist on language learning by blending it with a narrative that's strikingly similar to 'Quantum Leap.' You don't just play as Mulan; you jump into different historical characters, using your Mandarin to solve puzzles and repair time rifts. It's an educational adventure that makes learning Mandarin engaging and culturally enriching. Pros: Engaging Storyline: The Quantum Leap-style narrative keeps things interesting, making you eager to see which historical period you'll jump into next. Educational Value: Each chapter introduces practical Mandarin phrases and keywords in manageable chunks. It's a great way to learn while playing, with updates planned every 60 days to expand your vocabulary. Cultural Insights: The game dives deep into Chinese history, providing a rich backdrop that enhances both the gaming and learning experience. Voice Acting (Chinese): The Chinese voice acting is authentic and adds a great layer of immersion, reminiscent of watching a high-quality Asian drama. Cons: Poor Graphics: The 3D graphics are lackluster and sometimes distracting. A shift to 2D pixel art could better capture the historical theme…

I was going to give it a positive review even though it's incomplete and I knew there would be bugs. However, I can't even get past the second task because no matter where I am in the village left-clicking makes me talk to the lady who I'm doing the task for. So I am completely stuck and can't get further than the first few minutes of the game. Tremendously disappointing after waiting so long to give this thing a try. I really hope it doesn't take them a year to fix this because I was enjoying it up until that point. Edit: They fixed the issue!
