About I hope she's ok

Experience the mystery of midsummer in a traditional lakeside cabin in the heart of Finland, where the long evening gradually turns into dawn without ever visiting the night.

Every year you travel to this beautiful and remote part of the world to visit your oldest friend who lives an isolated life off the grid. Except this year for some reason and without warning, she’s not at home.

As you search for the clues that might help find your friend, things start taking a strange turn. Are you succumbing to cabin fever or could rumours of a mysterious lake creature actually explain her disappearance?

An avid social media user, you post regular photos and updates to your friends and followers. The tone you select for those interactions will go some way to determining whether you come through this experience unscathed.

 • Narrative driven through player’s social media posts

Developer Commentary

I wanted to create a game inspired by my love of nature and the folklore that surrounds it. Growing up in Finland meant I spent a lot of time swimming in lakes and hearing about the Näkki, a creature used to scare children away from dangerous waters.
I also wanted my game to feel contemporary and more in line with how people behave and interact in 2020. For better or worse we use our phones for almost everything so I wanted that to be a key narrative device.
Finally, in terms of gameplay and general atmosphere, I wanted to create an experience that was suspenseful, relaxing and slightly tongue in cheek.

The game is a simple walking sim that has a constant sense of mystery. The game is rather short though there is an autosave feature, so at least it doesn't have to be done all in one sitting. I did like the story though the "epilogue" doesn't seem to totally match the happy/good ending (unless I missed something). While I enjoyed the happy ending more, the sad ending just felt like the true ending to the game. I will say that I did enjoy the epilogue though it does come across as a cheap way to throw in a plot twist at the end. I didn't experience any issues while playing this game, which is always a plus when playing short games. I would suggest this game to any fans of paranormal and/or mystery games, especially if you're looking for a short/quick game to play.

Pretty environment and interesting little mechanics are overshadowed by a weird and bad plot. Thought it was going to be an eerie mystery exploration game like Gone Home, turned into a
cartoony horror where the monster is actually real (which is almost always just not fun)
Also runs really poorly for a Unity game. I hit 120+fps looking out onto the lake which drops down to ~20 when looking at anything else (may be a Linux issue)

Good short game, nice to see mölkky in a game, kinda wished I could play it. Nice story, gets bit annoying when people comment on every post, makes me glad I'm not an instagram influencer. Still, fun game to play when you want play a quick game

I would've never guessed so, but this game really benefitted from a second playthrough. While my first one was pretty frustrating or confusing at times, having to guess where to go with that achingly slow walking speed, finding many of my "own" in-game posts unbelievable or stupid and getting annoyed by the fact that my followers wouldn't comment on the magpie with the key in its mouth even if it's very clearly sitting in the background of my photograph etc.; in my second one I had to get the achievement for oversharing anyway, so I went full toxic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mode, only liked and posted the most anti-stuff and finally understood, what this game really is and when it works best: As a smaller, cuter "The Beginner's Guide". The writing can be underwhelming either way, I wish there was a little more attention to detail and reactions to the relevance or order of my posts, most of my followers seem to be on the lower end of brain activity and while I appreciated the general design, especially the one of the main mystery was a bit too childish or cutesy for my taste. But with a low price like this, some pretty funny moments, an unexpectedly scary little moment that really got me good, convi…

Well written story until the point we reach the possible endings. The sad ending did fit the atmosphere, however the good ending seemed more like an Easter-egg ending, rather than a good ending, completely ruined the immersion. Collecting the achievements was difficult enough to keep my interest to the end, required 4 play throughs, of which the first was definitely the most enjoyable. The depth of the story along with the changing social media behavior was also a pleasant surprise.
