Despite how crusty this game looks, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I really like how this game is essentially a simulated gacha (all the dopamine of pulling without the microtransations, yay!), and the daily rewards/quests encourage you to go slower with it. Now, the English translation is not good at all, but it's not very hard to figure everything out yourself. My only complaint is that the endgame balance is really poorly balanced. There's a really abrupt jump in difficulty for the final 3 achievements. I have no problem with challenging content but it feels like it was done only to pad for time. There's no good (level-appropriate) endgame grinding either, so you're kinda stuck running the midgame content over and over which is just bad design. Yet somehow the game is compelling enough to make me wanna grind out those last achievements so I will continue grinding them out lol All in all, I wouldn't buy this game for the full price but the sale price is definitely worth it imho1 found this helpful
It is very fun and satisfying to compose your own party and then see how they manage in huge battles against dozens of enemy soldiers, or boss fights against various fun creatures. The game allows you to unlock plenty of unique characters: tanks, healers, magic users, warriors, samurais, archers, even elfs, demons and more, which come with their unique ultimate skills. And then... you can even marry your favorite! Pixel art is super cute, while character art varies in quality, but some of them I like quite a lot (Attalla FTW!) Game offers many interesting items and some very cool RPG mechanics. You will equip and improve gear, or even craft super legendary items, make elixirs to strengthen your heroes, level them up and experiment with various party setups! There are also some super epic music tracks matching perfectly this fantasy journey (I wish there were more, but I guess for an indie game, this is still way above average in terms of quality). Do not get discouraged by poor English translations! You will be able to understand most of the stuff very quickly.1 found this helpful
Pretty fun. In short, this game has all of the benefits and fun factor of a free-to-play gacha game without all of the drawbacks that come with it (always online, microtransactions, FOMO for microtransactions). Me personally, I'm tired of all of the nickel and dime'ing in the free-to-play gaming industry, but love this type of game, so it's great to have a game that I can get the best of both worlds. There are also more games like this on Steam, but incredibly hard to find.
The whole appeal? You set up your heroes, equip some gear, maybe upgrade a few skills… and then they just fight automatically. You can watch them whiff, crit, and occasionally survive by sheer luck while you sip tea like a true overlord. Funny chaos highlights: Your hero somehow survives a boss that should have one-shot them… and you just sit there staring, thinking: “Did I just witness a miracle?” Gear upgrades sometimes do nothing, sometimes overbuff, leaving your party looking like a team of unstoppable clowns Critical hits happen so randomly that it’s less “strategy” and more “watch chaos unfold on screen” You start caring about hero personalities… and suddenly you’re emotionally invested in characters who have literally been fighting while you slept The idle nature is addictively satisfying. You check back in 10 minutes… 10 hours later, your heroes have done a week’s worth of progress while you were busy with real life, making you feel like a gaming god. Final verdict: A surprisingly addictive idle RPG where the real fun is in watching chaos unfold while doing nothing, obsessing over heroes, and occasionally wondering why you’re emotionally attached to pixelated swordsmen.…
not idle way to screen changes like those old ♥♥♥♥♥♥ capstone games. menu hell
Idle Calibur, also known by its Chinese title 选王之剑, is an indie hybrid RPG developed by 绝汪 and published by 绝汪 alongside Mecrew Games. Blending idle progression systems with roguelike structure, real-time strategy elements, and pixel-art aesthetics, the game carves out a distinctive niche for players who enjoy incremental growth combined with tactical customization. Rather than focusing solely on passive automation or purely hands-on combat, Idle Calibur attempts to strike a balance between player agency and background progression, creating an experience that can be as active or relaxed as the player prefers. At its core, the gameplay revolves around assembling and developing a roster of heroes, equipping them with relics and gear, and sending them into battles that can either be automated or manually influenced. Combat unfolds in real time, but the presence of an auto-battle system allows players to let encounters resolve on their own, emphasizing strategic preparation over constant micromanagement. For those who prefer deeper engagement, manual intervention allows skill timing and tactical adjustments. This dual-layer structure defines the game’s identity: success depends less o…
