About Ikode: Legacy of the Elements

What happens when the fundamental laws of magic are shattered?

Ikode: Legacy of the Elements is a classic JRPG that follows Alex, a young boy plagued by unsettling dreams of being watched. One fateful night, Alex’s fears become reality when an intruder breaks into his home, attempting to cast a dark spell on him. The mysterious figure escapes into a nearby forest, and Alex, joined by his best friend Elene, ventures after him.

In the heart of the forest, they stumble upon the intruder and a group of hooded figures engaged in a forbidden ritual to merge two elemental forces—an act that defies the teachings of the renowned magic academy that Elene attends. To their shock, the ritual succeeds in creating a monstrous fusion of the two elements, their combined power amplifying each other in ways never before seen.

As Alex, Elene, and their friends embark on a perilous journey, they are forced to question everything they know about magic and the very fabric of their universe.

This game has the usual RPG Maker plot. Some evil threatens the world, and you and a bunch of others have to save it. Unfortunately, it also suffers from the many flaws and shortcomings of an RPG Maker game. In other words, even though there are now improved tile sets, the world looks empty and desolate. The towns... I'd describe them as little more than a small cluster of ugly houses... are boring and barely populated. The actual gameplay is also extremely dull. You run from point A through dungeon B to point C, then through dungeon D... and so on. The dungeons are so boring they should be banned. Each one only contains one type of enemy mob that attacks every few steps. All party members receive EXP, even inactive ones... a new party member immediately gets the same level as the others (so everyone levels up simultaneously). Besides simply walking around, there's also a small boat and later an airship... but the world is so small that there's hardly anything to discover. Now, the real highlight of this game is supposed to be its job system. Each character has three additional specializations besides their standard job. There's also a super job... but only one person in the p…

I really enjoyed this game, more than most i've played recently. Yes, some bosses were incredibly hard but once i played around with characters and equipment they became much easier. All towns have free healing and progressively better armour and weapons, the characters are likeable and the length is just right. My only gripe is the ending was a little bland. My characters can still venture out even though i'm pretty sure i completed all optional content prior to the final dungeon. For all rpg lovers, give this one a go. I highly recommend. Kind regards, Diane.
