Mage's Initiation: Reign of the Elements

I actually enjoyed it. Use your brain for a bit but I have to say it's a combination of Kings Quest and Quest for Glory. I hope number 2 comes out very soon.

Game doesn't work: crashes, fails to start, mouse disappears from the screen. Additionally the speech volume is either silent on the lowest setting, or far too loud one setting more.

A spiritual successor to the Sierra adventure games of old, with particular inspiration seemingly drawn from the first Quest For Glory game. You play a young apprentice mage who has to complete three tasks to secure his initiation, while at the same time being drawn into a shadowy conspiracy. Choose one of four elements to master, which will determine your combat abilities and solutions to various puzzles. It's a fun little adventure game with a short narrative and a small but charming setting. Worth a play for adventure game fans, especially fans of the old Sierra titles.

Mages Initiation is a point-and-click adventure game. with a good smattering of RPG elements, and in the vein of classic point-and-click adventure games such as the King's Quest series. There's a lot to like here. There's a good balance between puzzling, exploring, talking and all the game's elements in general. There's also a great balance between it being a grounded and serious adventure whilst incorporating some slightly wacky, humorous moments too. And the presentation is spot on too, with some absolutely fantastic backdrops. In fact, I'd go as far to say that... after about three hours playing... I thought this was gonna be a pretty perfect adventure game. But then... it just got really boring. None of the puzzles felt particularly satisfying or inventive. There was just a lot of mundane stuff to do, and the majority of it was straight forward. Get an apple from a tree, build a raft with vine and planks, kill some goblins etc. - It's such basic level 1 stuff that it really put a crimp In my enjoyment of the game.
