This novel feels way too short to enjoy the read but I don't see why it can't be recommended anyway. Still, it's more of a neutral review. Praises: +Boys' Love (^^)b +despite being short it has more than enough endings and achievements. +Visually everything is very appealing: all the buttons, characters' design, the only CG :) In the gallery there are some pictures with real outfits that inspired the chars' look. That's a nice feature! +it's cheap. Nowadays novels cost so much:( at least this one is affordable. It'd be nice to get a 'perfect' game in a steam collection but alas, it doesn't count for now. I hope it'll change. +Most importantly it was fun, that's why I choose a thumb-up after all. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3477685381 Complaints: --I'd like like more, right now I feel totally unsatisfied:(This was more like some kind of a teaser than a full-fledged story. It was still fun to imagine a pirate captain and a doctor together. But I'd prefer if someone else did all the heavy lifting & created a detailed story. --it's possible to finish in half an hour but I preferred to prolong the sea voyage and played one ending at …12 found this helpful
Mixed review for sure! if this game is sub 2 dollars go for it! As other folks say 20ish mins MAX is the gameplay time. And you only get 1 singular CG. Which is already spoiled in the games screenshot previews above^ If you want a cute short pirate romp its definately okay. Nothing to write home about. Save that sexy kiss CG and move on! haha!4 found this helpful
💬 Supportive Caveat Jolly Roger is extremely short, clocking in at around 30 minutes for all endings. While the $2.99 price is low, the experience is also very limited, with minimal narrative development and a light romantic payoff. As the Ertal title released directly before Exes Assault, it is interesting as a smaller, slighter point of comparison, especially since Exes Assault improves considerably in length, polish, adult content, and M/M fantasy fulfillment. 🎮 Gameplay & Genre Jolly Roger is a very short BL visual novel from Ertal Games, released before Exes Assault, and you can clearly see the developer’s handprint here even though this is a much smaller and simpler project. The game is about 5,000 words long, with four choices and four endings total: three bad endings and one good ending. This is not a deep route-based VN. It is a compact pirate romance vignette where each choice mainly determines which ending you reach. 🔥 M/M Content This is a SFW BL pirate romance between Ian, a Royal Navy doctor, and Captain Henry Plank, also known as Bloody Henry. Henry is easily the highlight, bringing a charming, boy-ne…3 found this helpful
Premise This review reflects my personal experience with the game. While I aim to write thoughtfully and as fairly as possible, my reviews are subjective in nature and should not be used as objective metrics to assess/critique a game. I also curate a steam group which focusses on reviewing BL/Bara/MxM VNs. Writing & Story — ★★★☆☆ You play as a doctor captured by a pirate captain, and the story follows that dynamic through a short series of choices and endings. It’s a simple setup. There are multiple endings, and you can reach all of them in about 20 minutes. In fact, I somehow managed to hit the bad ending in under two minutes, which says a lot about how quickly things can shift depending on what you pick (pirates can be frightening!). The writing is straightforward. It moves quickly from one moment to the next, which fits the length, but it also means there isn’t much time to build tension or develop the relationship beyond the immediate situation.
