This game would be okay if it wasnt in such a broken state. Devs were active in the forum last year, saying theyd be working on it. the same issues are still as present. Its impssible to 100% as of right now. I had their next game on my wishlist and you can bet i will no longer be getting it, even if i was initally fully on board to support them. I really wish Devs would simply care enough to make sure the audience they built is not leaving frustrated and disapointed. Like the game might have been allright, not the best but maybe just enjoable enough for the time you spend in it. But its not and while some things can be forgiven, others are a total dealbreaker. you really dont expect something like a visual novel to fail on a technical level lmao

Just Deserts is a game that wears its ambition openly, attempting to merge a dating simulator, a light RPG, and a sci-fi military narrative into a single experience. Developed by Vifth Floor and published by Sekai Project, it places you in the role of a soldier stationed in a desert city under threat from alien attacks, while also navigating relationships with a cast of fellow squad members. It’s an unusual combination of genres, and while the game succeeds in creating something distinct, it also highlights the challenges of blending systems that don’t always naturally align. The story begins with a fairly straightforward premise—your arrival at a military base tasked with defending against an alien presence—but quickly shifts its focus toward character interactions. The game’s emotional core lies in its cast, each of whom represents a different personality archetype, from disciplined and reserved to energetic and unpredictable. Spending time with these characters, learning about their backgrounds, and gradually building relationships forms the backbone of the experience. The writing leans heavily into character-driven moments, often prioritizing personal interactions over the lar…

Bought this ages ago, played it recently (thankfully after quality of life patch, lucky there I suppose), took a break and now finished it. This is one of those games where "Yes or No" feels kinda like "Eeeh, could I have middle option?" where I'm like "I think there are some things to like if you like dating sims", but there is lot to improve. Like... I'm mostly choosing recommend on basis of "I DID finish it" even if I haven't at time of writing bothered to finish all achievements and since I do feel like I liked it more than disliked it even if its not easy recommend. So like, I was expecting scifi military adventure story with romance and maybe some mystery, one of girls was clearly evangelion inspired and aliens on steam store pictures looked bizarre. I guess I was expecting something like Planet Stronghold I suppose? What it IS, is a military themed dating sim(unusual combination of genres, as in I wonder if military fiction and "go on date with cute girls" fandoms overlap a lot) where you grind money from fighting aliens for gifts for whole game until its final boss time. There are small hints of "some kind of conspiracy is going and there is something suspicious about the …

Cannot recommend based on overall mix and presentation. For being a visual novel, the game attempts to put a lot of focus into strategy and a poor attempt at character development and quickly becomes repetitive. Very grindy, like a retro base farmer. Game does not give you timelines, so if you don't get enough progress by the end of the month and didn't get all needed minimaxed progress, it's game over. Start again. Characters are okay and dialog does have some decent military-leaning but some quirks can make a couple of them insufferable. A couple of the voiceovers are fairly flat. Overall, game would be okay if it didn't try so hard to mix the strategy-planning thing and force you to minimax purchases and go back and forth all over the map... Can't recommend.
