Developed by W.R.K.S Games, Katana-Ra: Shinobi Rising is an exciting futuristic cyberpunk roguelike game that immerses players in the world of the shinobi. Shinobis who worked as fighters or spies in feudal Japan were known for their expertise in stealth, martial arts, and intelligence gathering. Katana-Ra: Shinobi Rising pays homage to the rich history of these skilled warriors and takes you on the first mission to avenge a murdered daughter by killing the killer. When the shinobi embarks on his first mission, he has just eight hours before dawn to skillfully navigate the village and encounter a variety of fascinating characters along the way. These intriguing characters include the captain of the guard, a wise monk and even a mysterious concubine, all of whom help solve the mystery of the murder. Improvements have been made to the controls since the last update, resulting in a seamless gaming experience. However, disturbing trees and plants can sometimes obstruct the view. During combat missions, I encountered an unfortunate issue where I accidentally fell into an inevitable hole and was left with no options. Even trying to die and start over is not possible which leaves me frus…21 found this helpful
A mixed bag with this one. The voice acting is decent enough but the controls are not great imo. That is the main thing that holds the game back. I'll go ahead and thumb it up though coz I've played much worse. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/lMoltGNgVKQ13 found this helpful
The concept is really cool, but the controls were not the best. I kept clicking where I wanted too move to and the game registered that I was clicking trees or roofs. The wound attack only worked a few times and I mostly used the Distraction to get setup for the finisher. It would be nice to be able to see the enemies detection zones at least a little, as well as the range for my attacks. I would input the finisher and Jin would either slide across the floor to the enemy to hit them, or he would slash from really far away and they would just die, it felt very inconsistent. I have the core rulebook and I ordered the world book and the Shadow and Steel module for the tabletop version so I am invested in the Katana Ra title, I think with a little love this game has a lot of potential. I am saying do not recommend for right now though because the controls feel so clunky that I do not want to play it again until it gets an update3 found this helpful
