About Kinetype
KINETYPE is a minimalist ASCII roguelite where your keyboard is the interface for survival. Forget the mouse and the controller. To navigate the procedurally generated terminal, you type your commands and hit enter.Your objective is simple: enter the run, collect what you can, and reach the extraction point. Success earns you Bytes, a currency used for permanent player upgrades and items in the shop. If you fail, your current inventory and win streak are wiped, but your permanent progression remains for the next run.
Whether you are aiming for a record-breaking win streak or just grinding Bytes for your next upgrade, the terminal is yours to command.
THE TERMINAL ABILITIES
Survival depends on scavenged code fragments. To claim an ability, move over it and type its name to execute the command:- ZAP: Deletes the closest enemy instantly.
- BOMB: Sets an explosive with a short fuse.
- MINE: Deploys a proximity trap for trailing enemies.
- SILENCE: Pauses all enemy movement for 20 steps.
- PING: Visualizes a direct path to the exit.
- DASH: Teleports the player by pressing the TAB key.
- AND MORE: Discover a wide range of additional commands as you dive deeper into the sectors.
TERMINAL THREATS
The grid is populated by hostile entities designed to terminate your session. Every enemy reacts to your movements, creating a tactical, turn-based puzzle:- CHASER: A persistent hunter that tracks your coordinates across the grid.
- VIRUS: Infects your trail of characters, draining the Bytes you’ve collected for extraction.
- BLINDER: Corrupts your visual feed, forcing you to type and execute commands by feel for a temporary duration.
- FUSE: Similar to a Chaser, but triggers a catastrophic explosion when it nears your trail.
COMMAND AND CONTROL
By default, Kinetype is a strategic experience where the world only moves when you type. This allows you to plan your route and manage your abilities carefully. For those who want to test their typing speed, Hardcore Mode removes the safety net, forcing enemies to move on a timer if you aren't fast enough with your keystrokes.CUSTOMIZE THE GRID
Kinetype is built to be flexible. You can play with a clean monochrome look, a classic green "Matrix" terminal, or mod in your own custom colour themes.Whether you are aiming for a record-breaking win streak or just grinding Bytes for your next upgrade, the terminal is yours to command.

Way better than EA sports and console gaming combined.
Pretty good typing game, i feel like the mechanics and how everything works can be explained a lot better as i had to find guides that explained things to me. Some commands should be shown in the help menu but unfortunately they aren't. Overall once you get the hang of it it is pretty fun. 7/10
Great concept, but it's not enjoyable. The game doesn't feel fair or possible at all.
Really cool concept, but needs a few improvements: 1. As it is you can easily lose a streak if an enemy spawns near your starting position, so having an upgrade to have an ability to deal with them in each run would be awesome, and pings are basically required to find the extraction, maybe having a one-time upgrade that would give you a ping at the start of the run would be cool 2. Concept is cool, but not enough execution: as it is you can just hold down the button to move in a direction and once in a year you will run into a stopper enemy which wants you to write a preset string which will actually make your gameplay more interesting. Maybe having some form of bonuses for pressing different keys to move rather than holding one down would make the gameplay more engaging p.s. I have an idea for this: imaging there are dark letters in the background, and typing them out gives more bytes, a small change but already is more engaging. 3. A very needed QoL is being able to use items without writing them in CAPITAL LETTERS. I died to this more than I want to admit. 4. also I couldnt find the explanation for usage of custom sounds, fonts and etc. Really interesting if in the future there…
i like myself a cool roguelike only thing i dislike about this game is getting randomly caught offguard while you're going upwards and then basically being dead because you're too close to an enemy but honestly it's great besides that also it's not exactly the most riveting game? play it for the experience but besides that i don't see myself revisiting it
