King's Bountry: Dark Side is a tactical RPG that is best described as Heroes of Might and Magic, but you only play as a single hero. I didn't spend a lot of time with this one but it's clear that by this point the series was in trouble. The first two games were great, Warriors of the North had issues but still had enough of the old game's magic. This one is just embarassing, it feels like amateur mod making you realize how much work went into previous games. Like the map design: only when you see flat barren corridor-like maps of this game you realize how beautiful hand-crafted maps of the previous games were. The writing is so atrociously bad and edgy that it's repulsive, which is especially surprising to me, because the writing was always just a cheap Terry Pratchett copycat in this series, I didn't think it was an important part of the experience, but now I know it was. There are new units here and they're hard to distinguish color swaps. It's sad, really. Thankfully, all the previous games are good and highly replayable - even The Legend recently got a patch making it convinient to play. And those games were probably already too big for their own good. So do yourself a favor,…8 found this helpful

I have three big pet peeves with this one: 1. Quests are very, very annoying. For whatever reason, they are never straightforward. Ever. Instead of an interesting story and maybe giving a player the choice of doing it the right way or the lying conniving way (after all, you're the dark overlord, beware, maidens and peasants!), it's just 20 steps of going back and forth between the same places, and then gathering some flowers. Evil overlord. Going around gathering flowers. And it's all sprinkled with cringeworthy dialogue, like "of course I won't be honoring our agreement! Can't you see I'm evil! Gya!". No inspiration whatsoever. And then while you roll your eyes and skip all the dialogue, your realise that you accidentally accepted some side quest and all the instructions for it were in said dialogue, including where to go and what to find, while in the quest tree it says: "bring Bolo the Orc cooking manual". What. 2. The maps are empty. Like, really empty. I got to continent Aranal (or whatever it's name), and it's just... huge forest. With two people living in it, no joke. No shops, nothing. Just a lot of generic enemies, a quests about eggs and mushrooms and a girl that will …
Quite bad compared to the other entries of the series
Praise of evil
Great game for Heroesish style game and the story is great, I love this game!
