Vintage Hero

This one really surprised me... I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be one of my favorite Mega Man clones (and there are many I've played). The controls are great, the stages are well designed and varied (while not overly gimmicky). The bosses are fun and the last three (e.g. the big skeleton thing from the trailer) top most of the action platformer boss designs made by one-man developers. The game also has a light RPG leveling system, but that's rather accessory or could be considered as a kind of micro difficulty adjustment. A really surprising strength of the game is the writing, its story and characters. A tale of betrayal and subtle love indeed! The worst thing I can say about Vintage Hero is that it is too short. It only has four regular stages and two "Willy Castle" levels inculding the obligatory boss rush and three new bosses. But that's in a line with many Mega Man clones. To me, this is the perfect example of a "Hidden Gem". Very competent Mega Man clone with adjustable difficulty.

Not a bad effort overall

It's Mega Man, and it isn't really trying not to be. Jumps are a bit higher, and there are only four bosses whose weapons you obtain, but still very Mega Man, even if prior to sliding or buster charging. As Mega Man, it's decent, and one neat thing is that it has RPG elements; as you kill enemies or grab... point canisters? you can choose to increase your life, ammo, attack, or defense, each of which maxes out one level past 10. It's kinda weird that you only get to keep those levels if you finish the stage, but the game isn't all that hard for Mega Man veterans; I beat the first stage I tried without a single death, and died probably less than half a dozen times throughout the entire game. Soundtrack is good, and the visuals, while not mind-blowing, are at least interesting. The writing's a little off, but if you're playing Mega Man for the writing, you're doing it wrong. I've played plenty of Mega Man and quite a few knockoffs, and this is better than most.

This game is pretty cool 2$ is a fair price for a short game. The graphics are pretty good with unique and interesting enemies. The gameplay is good, platforming is tight, but it does have flaws like not being able to ride an airborne vertical boom. The weapons are decent but I can't say for all of them but the 3 I know are unique yet forgettable nonetheless. I liked the game but haven't beaten it due to stupid difficulty in some areas.
