What is LANDNAV?
- Land navigation is the practice of using map and compass to traverse unfamiliar terrain.
- LANDNAV simulates military and orienteering style navigation events. You will be given a series of objectives to find. They will be scattered across a remote natural area. You have a certain amount of time to find them all.
- It sounds easy. It is not easy.
- As a beginner, it will be difficult to avoid getting hopelessly lost. You will get lost and you will want to quit. But with persistent practice, you figure out how to keep track of your own location, and that’s when LANDNAV becomes really fun and addictive - when you have the skills to start focusing on being fast. You’ll feel like Jason Bourne, reading the land as you go at full speed, making a hundred decisions every minute.

The Game isn't bad it will teach you how to shoot an azimuth, pace count, plotting points on a map, etc. as well as how to find where you are on a map however before you buy keep in mind that the game hasn't received any of the promised updates. (at least there's none in the update history) its a good tool to learn and practice but beware it comes as is. The discords dead and the people in the community tab will tell you the game is dead.

Refunded As a disclaimer, I'm saying that I would recommend this game to players, but not in its current state. It clearly needs to be polished, especially the controls. The game has potential as a good learning tool for land navigation, better than anything I've seen in the Army. It incorporates loads of good features: You can use a compass, map, protractor, orient the map, use a pace count with beads, a notepad, etc. CONS: The controls need to be polished. Everything seemed unintuitive to use and was clunky. You can orient your map and then it gets rotated in a weird manner so that when you press space-bar for planning mode, it will stay in that weird angle. If the controls are going to stay the way they are, there should be a translucent overlay on top telling you the controls when you're selecting a tool. For example, if you hold the map or protractor, it should state "Q and E to rotate". I wanted to practice finding points but even the thick vegetation was annoying and kept shifting your character and changing your perspective. Highly annoying.
